• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

DESS Key Error... HELP.

Hello,
I'm the proud owner of a 2014 RSS, just bought it in June 27 to be exact. I just had it serviced last weekend. I currently have 837 m on it, just love it to pieces. Went to hop on it this weekend, turn the key, got an orange screen, with a KEY on it and DESS Code. I tried both Keys, I googled, I looked here on your Forum .Nothing Works, So frustrated and of Course, All shops were closed.

I called my shop this morning, they said its the keys, if one doesn't work the other will. I told them I tried both. They are coming to pick it up.

Do you know if this a reoccurring thing with Spyders or RSS?

Any input would greatly be appreciated.

 I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble...
For some reason: 2014 saw a HUGE rise in these errors. Either the DESS module will need replacing, or your keys will need re-programming.
Here's to hoping that it's the latter!
Good Luck!

In a nutshell....

Take it to the dealer and have them change out the faulty parts. They are aware of the issue...:banghead::banghead: but seem to have no idea where the bad ones are...:banghead:

There have been a LOT of these. Seems to be 2014's on their first 1000 miles. It must go to the dealership, you can't fix it.

It's not the key, as originally thought, it's a failure caused by an electromagnetic spike in the ignition. I'm going in to Procaliber on Thursday to have a shield put around the ignition. It's a BRP recall bulletin and will be fixed for free. It's a pain in the butt, but I find that if I remove the key and let the system COMPLETELY shut down (SPYDER word disappears
from the screen), it will usually start he second time. However I have had to remove the key, walk about 20' away and try up to 5 times before it would start. Fortunately, I have not been stranded. Be happy when Shawn gets it fixed!

It's not a recall it's a Technical Service Bulletin. When people call things a recall it confuses other dealers when other users ask about a recall.

What's the point of walking 20 feet away when the transponder range of the key is only about an inch?

Yup... :agree:
I found that a chipped-key needed to actually be touching a dummy-key; in order to start the bike with the Dummy. nojoke

This happened to me a few days ago but luckily I was able to get it started by pulling the key and waiting a few seconds. It happened again the same day. I've ridden a few times since without incident. The good thing is that I have my 12,000 mile service scheduled tomorrow and will have them check it out.

I had the DESS KEY CODE happen last month on my 2014 RTS-SE 6, the dealer must to replace the module and reprogram both keys, make sure your dealer orders the right module. " go to" DESS KEY CODE PICTURES ON A 2014 RTS-SE6"
that I started on 7/12/15. The above work is under warranty. Do you still have any warranty left on the spyder?

Since I have had the module replaced, I have not had any problems, the spyder has started. Also I do not get the DESS KEY CODE. Let us know what happens. Deanna

Yes my bike is under warranty, I just got it new from a dealer, it was a leftover they wanted off the floor. I will let you know what becomes of all this.

Thank you for the input also. Gives me a sense of some relief.

Automatic key walk

When you come home from a ride, REMOVE the key from the ignition, take it in the house, or put it on the other side of the garage. I've been doing this since day one and I've never had any wierd s--t happen, like dess error or whatever, on the screen. I think it's a good thing to do, to let the computer re-set after every use. JMHO.

Be sure that the dealer orders the right part #. The part # is ( for a 2014 RS, ST, RT) 710004190.

The part # for a (2015 RS, ST, RT) is: 710004241.

The part # for a (2015 F3): is 710004697.
I got the above info from my dealer( they are Walt's Sales & Service of Derby, VT.) Also on the paper It says" Warranty"
Claim under regular warranty.
