DESS KEY CODE PICTURES ON A 2014 RTS-SE6

Here are 2 pictures that I got of the "DESS KEY CODE on my 2014RT-SE6:

It is a good thing that I was @ home, when the above happened. I tried 1 of the spare keys, in the ignition and I got the same DESS KEY CODE.

Then I took both of the keys walked away from the spyder, and waited about 5 minutes thinking that the spyder would start or the computer would reset it's self, but the spyder did not start. Their was no clicking sound( which is normal when I start the spyder, the computers talk to each other).

If I was on the road when the above happened would the factory warranty cover the above?

Or would the Roadside assistance coverage cover it?

I also have Towing & Labor Costs on my insurance policy?
My factory warranty runs out next year in July of 2016, then at that point my B.E.S.T would kick-in.

Do I call the Can-Am dealer that sold the spyder to me, or what should I do now?
Any ideas would be helpful! Deanna

My 2012 has a fuse dedicated to the DESS..maybe,if you haven't already,check your owners manual for the fuse and maybe push all relays down..Good Luck!...Others have reported multiple dess module failures and a TSB out to repair this...

Unfortunately, It's time to call the dealer... :banghead:
This is not something that is going to go away, and you sure don't want to be afraid of having the bike not start, while out on a ride! :yikes:

DESS KEY CODE UP DATE

The good news is my spyder did start, and I did not get the DESS KEY CODE, but on Tuesday I will be making a phone call to my can-am dealer( my can- am dealer is not open on Mondays) and letting them know what I got for a code. I will post here what the can-am dealer says.

I let my :spyder2: run for awhile, then I shut if off, waited a few minutes, started it up again everything seem/and sounded normal. Took a short ride around the lawn , no issues. Tomorrow, when I get home from work, I will start the :spyder2:. Deanna

With photos in hand, and failed start attempts, they will at a minimum start some paperwork. With luck they have parts ASAP and get this resolved for you.

Hopefully they will not give some mumbo jumbo about must be a total failure before replacement.

I so want to buy the tools to disable this silly system, but just not in the cards at the moment.

Key Error

My 2014 RTS did the exact same thing...Dealer replaced the DESS module with a update one...There is a BRP service bulletin addressing this problem on the 2014 RT, RS & RSS models only...I could usually get mine started after booting up and getting the error message by rapidly turning the key off and on several times, usually three times very quickly and the error would clear itself and allow me to start it...The service bulletin says the DESS module is satiating the key chip and causing the problem...The DESS information is stored in the ECM so no reprogramming of the keys is needed after the module is replaced...The trunk needs to be removed to replace the module...

I had a previous post about two weeks ago addressing this problem...

Mine did this about 3 months ago. Someone on here told me to disconnect the positive cable, and touch the negative post on the battery. This would discharge the system, and everything would be fine. I was also told that waiting 48 hours would net the same result. I did as instructed, and everything was fine. I never had it do it again. I was told by the dealer that it was probably a glitch in the system, and after the bike cranked, it never showed up on the computer.

being a known issue with the 14's you can check with brp and your vin# as can the deaker. They should have them in stock cause there out there failing. Guess they can't tell which one till they fail but they should cover your cost if it happens on the road. Jmo...good luck..they will need it..:roflblack:

We have done this in the car business for 15 years...We always disconnected both cables and touched them together whenever we had modules that stopped communicating..Always worked unless a module was defective..

He said to touch the negative post on the battery with the positive cable. No, I don't see how you could do any harm touching the two cables together if they aren't connected to the battery. I'm far from an electrical system expert, but my first reaction to the idea of touching the positive cable onto the negative post is :yikes:
