I dont know if the DESS can be deactivated if it doesnt recognize the key at all.
I have now gotten the dreaded Bad Key error on my 2015 F3S. It is out of every warranty there is....No Warranty. For awhile, I was able to spray inside the ignition with some electrical spray and that kept me going for a couple of months but now....it won't work.
The dealer, nearest me, has ordered a new ignition system. He's telling me that there is an "antenna" in the ignition that communicates with the chip in the key. Ok, I get that is probably simplifying things, but he also told me the Can Am will do nothing about this. My cost (guessing) will be around $700 when all is said and done. I know the part cost is $400+.
If using BUDS on my Spyder will save the $$ as well as the aggravation of my Spyder being in the shop....I'm down for it. Where do I find someone that will do this for me?
If you look at what appears to be an ignition unit on the parts fiche, you'll notice it's labeled DESS Antenna. That's gonna be your weakest link as it's a mechanical part. Certainly, 'retrying' the whole key thing fits in with that scenario.
Depending on the *design* of the DESS system and how/whether the chip key's reader modules/antenna's are node locked - they may also need to replace the DESS module as well. The node locking has to do with preventing someone shoving an aftermarket DESS 'spoofing' system into the mix.
Before column mounted ignitions in cars, there was nothing preventing you from popping out your ignition popping it into someone else's in order to steal it.
I've read every post on that Thread ….. and 90% have just had to change the MODULE to get the issue fixed ….. which leads me to believe " changing the ignition switch " is purely a GUESS, and doesn't really effect anything …… good luck …. Mikehyea:
Any body out there that have bought Rykers have you had the dreaded D.E.S.S.error?
Just curious

I hope you don't get the dreaded D.E.S.S error.700 miles - no problems!
Nope. I've put almost 3,900 miles on it and have never had a D.E.S.S. fault.

What year is your spyder?EEEk! I got one today!
What year is your spyder?
and do you have warranty, and B.E.S.T warranty?
If you do the D.E.S.S module is covered under the warranty.

Just curious if anyone has had DESS FAULT CODE after having a ecm reflash as they can bypass the mode button start up process...
Yes I have both, but since I just got the monster flash, I was worried they may say that caused it and void my warranty. I would rather go to Spyderpops and have them turn it off and not worry about it happening again. If they detect the flash and have to replace the module, they might reprogram my ecu and wipe out my flash.
Question: What is "The Monster Flash"?
