• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

who knew ?

Brought the bike in, i was able to get it started by turning the key on and off about 30 times. once i got it running headed down to the dealer. when i got there i shut her down and went to get the tech. sure enough it wouldn't start for him. He saw the blank screen and said he things the entire unit is going bad. I asked about the DESS and he said it was not that because i would never get it started. When i hear more I'll keep everyone posted. Thank you for your opinions, I'm learning a lot about Can AM's.

Well, the last time I posted I took the bike in and it was the gauge cluster - tach & speedometer. It did go bad. I was called & they said the bike was fixed. I get down there and they can't get it started. Had to leave another 4 days. Turns out that when the tech updated the software on the bike it got messed up. He reinstalled the software and everything is now working. I wouldn't have guessed it could be software AND the cluster. So now it runs great and it's great to be back on the road.

Just a general question to throw out to everybody. Are there any 2015 RT's that have the 710004916 module from the factory? I'm guessing not. Then what about the 2016's do any of those have the new module in them when built?

System was supposedly redesigned for 2016

Good Question Deanna

Well I was wondering, because I have a 2015 RTS and I haven't had the dreaded DESS failure. What I can't understand why some are having problems and other aren't? It really doesn't make sense. Of course I don't know if there has been some reprogramming of the module when the 2015 first came out or if something was added or taken out in the middle of the year or what. Just don't understand how some are effected or some are not.

Does the Module have the part number somewhere on it? I have a 2015 RT Limited with almost 4,000 miles on it and luckily no problems. I'm not going to worry about it till it happens the first time. Then I will immediately take it in.

From reading it seems most except for a very selective few are 2014 models. Would you agree? How many 2015 models so far on this thread are there that have experienced this issue?

I wonder the same thing.

Most 2014 RT owners have not suffered a DESS failure.

Actually; it might be more accurate to say that "Most 2014 RT owners haven't suffered a DESS failure..."
Although to be 100% truthful: I don't know what the exact percentage is... :opps:

It's a "hit or miss" failure, of a part that is subcontracted out... :gaah:

Wife's F3s Bad Key

Read my comments under the video post so you'll understand how and why I (mebbe) figured it out. My belief is that the issue lies within that (ring) that has a wire attached to it. I haven't seen anything about DESS onscreen, only (bad key)...

Deanna: I don't know how/where to find the part number, or even what this exact module is....can you help?

I got my dess module part # from my dealership's invoice. The rubber ring that has a piece of metal that is attached the module might be at the other end.

Some else that has an F3s should chime in to help. Deanna

There is probably nothing wrong with the "round ring" that is actually called the DESS Antenna. In order for the key to be energized, the key must be positioned inside the the center of the "round ring" so the electrical field will activate the key. Moving the "round ring" to the side, does not provide the field to energize the key.

As for why you see bad key, it could still be a DESS module failing or maybe the key is bad or the ECM key log needs to be reprogrammed.

After messing with both keys, and that Ring, nothing has changed other than being able to start the bike....I've blew compressed air and also used wd40 in and around the (ring) and the keyhole after the issue. So far alls well. Will keep everyone updated....have an appointment for 3k service on 10th, will make sure they have necessary parts available....

What about DESS clone keys?

Anyone had any luck getting an aftermarket key cut and cloned? Tried 1 and the key shop cut the key fine but could not clone it. Wonder if there is a way to get the bike to clone it with the pressing of a few buttons ect... Was able to do it on my old Mazda. Was funny way to do it but it cloned a new key fine. Wonder if anyone's tried.

What year is your bike??? :dontknow:
You can clone keys for any 2008, to 2013 Spyder.
In 2014: that came to an end...
The new Crypto-Chips cannot be cloned.

Does anybody know the failure rate between the 2014's & 2015's. Are the 2015's have a higher failure rate? What about the 2016's, how many has failed?
