• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

DESS Error

I recently added a Bluetooth amp and once everything was hooked up. I received a DESS Error and the bike wouldn't start. Dealer said it was a result of adding the amp. I totally disagree. Has anyone ever experienced the DESS error.

I haven't experienced the DESS error but I have experienced a dealer telling me that whatever add ons I had on my Spyder were the cause of whatever trouble I was having. For example: I'm sorry Ann but that aftermarket cup holder surely caused you to go into Limp Mode"

Good Luck.

I occasionally experienced a DESS error. With my 2014 RTL. I walked away from the bike for awhile and it would always resolve itself upon my return. Also trying the other ignition key worked. When I took it in for the initial oil change and service, the dealer reprogrammed the two keys and I haven't had any further reoccurrences.

I had the dess error to occur about a month ago. There was nothing done to cause it to happen, it just didn't recognize my keys. Someone posted that it would correct itself in 48 hours, or I could disconnect the hot cable from the battery, touch the negative post, and it would discharge and correct itself. I did the later, and it worked fine every since. I will have my dealer look at it again when I take it in for my next service.

Double check....

there are faulty ignition switches out there that need to be changed. Check with your vin#. Unless you messed with the ignition the amp should not be the problem...:dontknow:

after a couple of DESS failures my dealer hooked up the buds and relearned both keys and did a double update and all was good, this was on my 2014 RT-S

Dess Module

I had similar problems with my 2014 RT. Couple times, had to pull key and walk away, then it would start. When we were at Spyderfest, ready to leave on Sunday morning, wouldn't start! Called flatbed, took it to Pitbull who thankfully was open to help anyone who needed help. They hooked up to Buds, ran update, still nothing. They took the frunk off and checked Dess Module, which turned out to be bad. Fortunately , they had one in stock, replaced defective module, and we were on our way. I' no expert, but I don't see how adding a Bluetooth amp would cause Dess Error.

Thanks to all the responses. I believe it has something to do with ignition because neither key worked. Question what is the website that I can check my Vin

I am not sure about where to check the Vin, but you might want to try my suggestion about removing the + battery cable, touching the - battery cable post, and then reconnecting. Neither of my keys worked, but after doing this, it worked perfectly. Never had another problem, but I will be having it checked again by the dealer at my next service.

If you google this error (DESS error), a fairly common cause is a short to ground; can be either the battery shorting or wiring. Since you just put a gizmo in, I would look at the positive wire to see if it is touching some ground (frame, negative battery anode, another wire of the opposite polarity, etc).

Our friend Steve had that problem. His dealer blamed his horn! Our friend Kril had the same problem, bone stock Spyder!

You wouldn't be able to look this up as it is a service bulletin not a recall. Your dealer can check it but they seem to be rather uninformed.
