• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Deploying to Iraq for a year in a couple weeks
Hi Everyone.
I have a friend that signed up on my site and just emailed me the following message. I gave him the only information I have on who to contact at BRP about his problem. He is being sent to Iraq in just a couple of weeks so he needs help ASAP
thank for any information you can send him. I don't have his email but will forward any info you have. I am trying to get a email address so you can respond to him without going through me but for now I will forward any information to him.
Lets also a a prayer for his safe return from Iraq

"" Hi Gang, I just wanted to see if anyone had an idea what I can do about the steering recall and there are no dealers here in Hawaii. I am sure I can make a plug to fit so would I need a program or just send some software to the bike? Has anyone dealt with this issue. I am deploying to Iraq for a year in a couple weeks and trying to get this done before I go so my wife has no issues while I am gone. Thank you.

No available BUDS software to connect the Spyder and download the program, even if you had the interface. With the troubles nearly half the folks are having after the update, I would wait a while unless he is having problems. By the time he returns, they will probably have it sorted out (hopefully). Our prayers for an uneventful deployment and a safe return.

This is a dealer only update, you would need the BUDS software and access code.

If I were him I would be focused on his mission and forget about the recall, it won't hurt to do it when he get's back and I'm sure there will be a new update before he gets back.
Prayers are with you all.

Sounds like his wife also rides/drives the Spyder, hence the need/desire to ensure her safety while he is away.

I'm not convinced that there is a severe safety issue for all Spyders, nor am I convinced that this band-aid update is a cure for serious steering problems. Spyder was my wife's first street motorcycle, and neither she nor I have had any problems in 17 months of ownership. I believe that if there are no current steering issues, this could wait. The lack of a deadline or BRP pressing owners to get the update done immediately tends to support that. I'm sure that is not the official stance, and everyone must do what they feel most comfortable with. Like the man said, with no dealer in Hawaii, it is a moot point.

I agree...issue is that if you do have the problem, it might be too late to deal with it. I always say that steering and braking issues are of utmost importance. I'll find out tomorrow if the update is worthwhile...hopefully, I won't have any issues...

I haven't had any steering issues yet...but, if there is a known problem, the steering functioning properly far outweighs some sputtering issues...

I'm hoping all goes well...at least I'm getting my risers put on so there will be at least one positive from tomorrow!! :doorag:
