There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Delivery & setup charges

I am shopping for a Ryker Rally. I visited one dealer today and was surprised that they want to add $700 for delivery and $700 for setup. What is considered reasonable for these added fees (if any)?

Reasonable ..... ZERO .... Me and 100's maybe 1000's here have paid ZERO ...... good luck ..... Mike

BK is right on. The setup and delivery should be included in the MSRP. I have not paid set up or delivery for over 15 years, including zilch on ALL six spyders.

There are some tips and hints about buying new Spyders, give the threads a look see in the search mode. You may save a buck or two.

Freight will vary due to distance from origin (Mexico)
For Las Vegas, freight was $990

Setup was $455 and seeing what was required to uncrate and assemble, not unreasonable.
At typical shop rates, that covers 3 hours and it required more than 3 hours.

MSRP was $9,999
Discounted price $8,212.03 (my third purchase from this dealer and deal done by email)

The discount more than paid for freight and set-up.

Not true. Dealers are charged delivery. Says so on Can-Am page that MSRP does not include delivery or set up.

We are going to disagree a little here. BRP says a lot of interesting things. I have never been charged for ACTUAL delivery and set up fees. I always pay less than MSRP. Other deals also get worked into the package. It's in there somewhere, but I have never let them add that on to any of my purchases.

You may bargain to not be directly charged for freight and/or setup, but then get less of a discount off MSRP.

They are legitimate charges, per Can Am website.

How well you can bargain may depend upon location.
I almost bought a new vehicle in Covington, GA, while visiting daughter and family.
Great dealership, no phony adders.

In Las Vegas, it is difficult to purchase a 4 wheel vehicle without dealership adders, such as theft deterrent packages (VIN marked on glass, etc.), "dessert protection" packages and several other overpriced items to increase profit, per sale. I can state I will not pay for this, but it will mean that the discount from MSRP will lessen.

Exceptions may happen on the last day of the month, especially in inclement weather, as salespersons / sales managers are working on a goal.

Well today at the first dealer in NJ they quoted MSRP (minus the $750 Can Am discount) plus $1400 delivery & setup. This seemed excessive.

Anyone know dealers in NJ with fair pricing?

Whether you pay it or not wasn’t my point. Your dealer is charged freight

If it were me looking to purchase a Spyder or Ryker I would contact IMotorsports ( a Sponsor here ) ( frre call ) and ask if they have those charges ...... Mike

Reading on these forums I've been shocked by how complicated it is to compare prices in US.
IMO the price on the tag/ad should be the OTD price.
When I bought my Ryker I could easily choose a dealer by browsing ads, all of them have the same price for brand new Rykers and none of them could bargain on the price for the Ryker. I choose a dealer with a good reputation and gave them a call and they said I'd get 10% of any accessories I choose to add to my bike, we agreed and I went to pick it up 2 days later. No hidden or additional fees.

the delivery they have to pay.considering mine had a couple problems, the setup charge is just more profit but yes I paid it.

??? .. how do you know " they " have to pay it..... just because it's on the sticker doesn't mean " they " are paying for delivery...... don't drink the " kool - aid " ......good luck .... Mike

As a former dealer and still involved, I hired the current owner back in '74 right out of College and the dealership rotates between the #2 and #1 dealership in the USA. Yes the dealership is charged the full shipping amount as shown on the Monroney, the legal hang tag or window required on new vehicles for sale.

Typically, the Manufacture or Importer negotiates with a shipping company a flat fee for shipping whether it be from outlet to dealership whether it be next door or across the country, ie all dealerships of the same brand pay the same price for shipping in the interest of fairness. PDI and Assembly is handled a little differently. Some brands have a specific PDI procedure that the Tech has to sign off on each item, all that info is tied to the VIN of the vehicle. For example with BMW you can go to any dealer....in the world with the VIN and can immediately find out when and where it was delivered to the customer, who worked and signed off on it, any time it has been in for something at an authorized dealership and so much more that it would blow you away. With BMW, the PDI is a warranty item and is paid to the dealership by BMW. Another thing that you might find interesting about BMW, warranty labor is paid to the Dealership at the Posted labor rate based on flat rate. There is no incentive for either the dealership or Tech to not do warranty work, it pays the dealership and Tech the same as any other work. A class act not followed by all brands.

Jut a bit of FYI.

Bottom line...it's all about the final negotiations that determine an "out the door" price. As long as a person is happy with the deal...so be it.

I have stated many times, there is always a little give and take on any deal. Some things work out and some not. OTD price is what you are shooting for.
