• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Deer whistles

:yikes:Does any one have any input on deer whistles (4 LEGGED)
on their spyders. Maybe it isn't a problem down south but up here in the pucker brush it's no joke. Many vehicles damaged by hitting a deer. They seem to come out of no where. I want to protect my new Baby when it arrives

Have a cold one

Don't know..!!

When living and working the bike shops in Texas we sold the :cus: outta those things. Can't say how well they work but all the bike repais related to deers did not have them..:dontknow:

had a good friend give me a pair two years ago and they are on the spyder now. living in an area that they show as having 42 deer per square mile and not having hit one yet, I gotta say they work for me. when I hit a deer i'll let ya know that they don't work!:roflblack::roflblack:

I have two on the front of my :f_spider:. No deer so far. Lots of people in my country have them on their cars and trucks. Went to my local sporting goods store and told the clerk I'm new to the country and wanted to hunt deer and lots of folks said I needed a deer whistle to call them in. Should have seen his face. I think they do have an effect.

A lot of years ago when I first asked an older gentlemen what they were and if they worked he said they cost him .79, had them on for several years and never had a deer in front of him. Said he felt it was a wise investment.

Some people claim they don't or can't work, but what do they cost now $ 2.00 ? Worth the gamble ?

$9.95 at cabelas!

Those that have used them and hit a deer will tell you they do not work.

Those that have used them and been free and clear of deer hits will tell you that they work great.

This is one you will have to decide on.

There has been quite a bit of testing on these and other 'Deer Avoidance' mechanisms. All of the testing I've seen says the deer whistles do not work. However, I agree with you. For the price, it can't hurt. Just don't drive like you're immune to a deer strike because you've got them.

Let me tell you how well they work. I have one on my spyder. One day when I was hiking a few miles from my parked spyder, two bucks jumped right across the path I was on and missed me by what seemed like inches. It goes to show you that those whistles even work from a distance. Now tell me that isn't scientific proof.

how fast were you hiking....? if it was over 1 mph, i'd say that's VERY SCIENTIFIC data... :roflblack:

next time you see a deer crossing the road or out in a pasture, stop what you are doing and whistle at them. i'd say 7 out of 10 times they will stop on a dime and look back at you.

they aren't always the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Kuryakyn Hornet Deer Alert... expensive, but works at any speed. I haven't gotten them yet though. lower on the farkle list.

They also repel elephants very well; I've never hit one of them...

:D
Deer whistles actually don't repel anything... :gaah:
All that they do; is emit a frequency that's beyond our range of hearing.
The deer can hear them; as can dogs.
But that's all that there is...
And NO guarantee as to what direction that they're going to run in; IF they decide to bolt! :yikes:
Save the $9.95 for breakfast, and ride more alertly.

(over 35 ears of taking deer claims... the adjusters have seen thousands of these little buggers; plugged with deer hair...)
