• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Deer whistles

Probably 30 years ago I had a conversation with the Safety Director of the company I worked for, GTE Southwest. He had recently moved to Texas from his previous job as Safety Director of GTE Wisconsin. (Both companies have since been absorbed into Verizon.) He told me that they had had a bad problem with company vehicles hitting deer in Wisconsin and had installed deer whistles on all their vehicles. He said that over a period of several years the whistles seemed to reduce the instances of hitting deer as measured against miles driven. But the reduction was only by a small amount. He felt that using the whistles had a positive effect even though it was a small one so they were continuing to use the whistles.

I haven't intalled whistles on any of my vehicles. I've just quit riding at night when the deer are so much more likely to be out.

Haha, I'm a photographer and people always ask about the bear bell on my camera bag. It's just a little jingle bell and when I say "it's a bear bell" people guffaw and ask if the bear is scared of the bell. No, the point of the bell is to make noise so that you don't accidentally sneak up on and startle a bear.

You didn't find that bell in a pile of bear scat; did you???

A young couple is planning a hike through an area that is known to have a population of brown bears. Before they head off into the wild they stopped to talk to a Park Ranger. When they asked him for advice on bear safety he gave them three pieces of advise.
"First, where a bell so they can hear you coming. Second keep your bear repellant pepper spray on you at all times. And lastly, always keep an eye out for brown bear droppings. Where there is scat there is a bear".
Still feeling a little unsure the young woman asked; "how do we know if they are bear droppings, and not from some other animal?"
"Oh, that is easy" he replied.
"Bear droppings are the ones that have bells in them and smell like pepper spray."

When I hike in bear country I always take two other people that I can outrun.

Used to use deer whistles. decided the onlly animals that paid attention to were the horses I had in the horse trailer once the vehicle with them was a little ahead of my trailer. Same with my dogs. Took them off and haven't used them since. Yes the ones on my truck would affect my horses.

Good luck with them, hope they help you.

We were on a dive boat in the Bahamas and the last thing the dive master said before we went in the water to do the shark dive was "And the most important thing to remember, if a shark starts coming at you in an agressive manner, you don't have to out swim the shark. You do have to out swim your buddy."

All the fast swimmers thought it was pretty funny.

That's why I always carry a handgun...
One round to a knee, and I'm pretty sure that I can pretty near outrun anybody! :2thumbs:

I work in an auto dealership, and an elderly woman drove in and I noticed her deer whistles were on backwards..I told her that this would call the deer in to her,not drive them away..She said "Really"..That really made me feel bad!nojoke

on our spyder

Since we put them on our spyder we have had two black bear run in front of us. I can guarantee that they don't work on bear for certain! As to deer i can't be sure either, but i can say i have been lucky enough not to have any deer run in front of us yet!
