• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Deer Myths...

Personally, I worry about any loud noise whether it's pipes, horns, or whatever scaring a deer on the side of the road. They are dumb animals and when frightened are just as likely, in my experience, to run in front of me as away from me.

So, would you not use your horn? Would you just slow down?

I've tried them, and they don't make a d___ bit of difference. They don't work on moose either. [/QUOTE]

To each his own. 13 years, have had them to the right and left, never in front. They're up to about $ 1.29, I'll continue to use them !

...Deer whistles... There's nothing magical about them... They simply emit a tone that is in a pitch that's too high for us to hear. They might as well be called "Dog Whistles". Since it's in a frequency that isn't normally heard out in the wilds, it'll get their attention, but it's not going to guarantee which way that they're going to start moving... if at all!
.44 mags in bear country? It's a nice round, but not the best medicine for a BIG bear... At best you're pushing a 240gr slug at about 1300 fps... maybe 1000 ft/lbs of energy... You just want to convince "Yogi" that there's better morsels somewhere else... Lots of noise works best, so why not simply use a "firewalled" .357 magnum load in a 2" barreled revolver for the most noise and flash possible?
(Sorry... Guns is MY ballpark, and I live in deer/bear country... I hunt with a T/C handcannon in 375.JDJ. I know what these combinations do to critters!)

Deer whistles, I've hit deer with them on my truck, I think the whistles bring the deer in close so you can give them a good ''WACK''.
When i go hunting at my place in BeaverBrook, I use a single shot 45/70' 500gr. But i've seen bears taken with 223's. In the off season i bring a 45 Long Colt just to make noise. We see almost as many Bear as Deer latey,
Last Nov. two had Jersey tags on them.

No, I do not use my horn if I see deer on the side of the road. I do decelerate but I don't use the brakes unless the deer starts across the road in front of me. Seriously, I do not want to startle the deer. I think they are just as likely to run onto the road as to run away from it, maybe more likely. Think about it this way, which side of the road did the deer come from anyway? Just because it is on the right hand side doesn't mean it hasn't already crossed the road to get there, or vice versa. A startled deer may go any direction. In my experience, if they start to run, they typically run alongside the road and, at some point, cross the road.

We live out in the middle of the woods, and there are people that will beep their horn the entire time they are driving down the main road in front of our place. They think by doing this it will scare all the deer away from the road. I think it just serves to tick me off when I am outside and hear it. :D

The horn might get their attention and get them started in whatever direction they're inclined to run. If you start them early enough you can then react in a more timely manner to them...
.454 Casull?? Who's gonna carry one of those on them fulltime?? (Have you ever shot one of them??)
