Decisions, decisions

I have a 2012 RTS which I have really enjoyed and got it to where it is comfortable on long rides by adding the comfort seat and web boards plus I added a few chrome things like the chrome tips to exhaust system, chrome handlebar adds and chrome front rims. But yesterday I saw the new 2015 RTS in the intense red pearl and fell in love with it. Man that color is awesome. They also had a RT limited in the same color but was two tone, intense red and black. I really didn't like the limited though. Do I trade or not???????? I'm thinking about the bigger 1330 engine and 6 gears as far as touring goes and I guess it has less maintence also. Please tell me what to do, I know it my decision. Just what can I expect price wise for a trade in value?? My 2012 has around 7500 miles.

I've never owned another Spyder, but if you take that RT-S for a ride the 1300 engine and trans package it will sell itself. That color is great too.

As mentioned above, good idea to do a test ride. The ride will most likely convince you that it is time to move up.

The difference between the 2012 and the new 2015 is night and day.

The red color is very stunning this go around. The two tone is a Special Edition and will cost a few more bucks.

Your trade and about $15K should put you in the ball park.

You should be able to have your 2012 painted the red color for $2500... The added $10000 will pay for a lot of gas and services..... you have the best of the 990s. Personally, I'd have it painted, and ride the wheels off of it.

Look closely at the deal offered - the difference between what I got for my 2010 and what I paid for my 2014 was less than $2500, out the door. That was a no-brainer. I don't see deals like that on the 2015s yet....

Some of your "FARKLES" you can take with you, Trade up and enjoy the new ride, power, and less maintenance. I used to sit and look at my money, but it is boring.

:agree: x10 To pay that much extra for a different engine is just not worth it. Not to me anyways.

$2500 difference?? between a 2010 and a 2014. Were they equal models?? Now I find that so hard to believe. Tax on the difference would be half that amount which means you only paid about $1250 difference. Out the door means Tax and License included. Sorry but I have got to call BS on this unless it is a misprint. If so please correct.

No tax in Oregon. Zip. Nada.... I went from a RT "S" to the RT Base. I got $16500 for my 2010, and paid $18250 out the door for the 2014. You are welcome to do the math.

I had no interest in paying for stuff I didn't want on the 2014 - the fenders and BRP floorboards were enough to kill any interest in the "S" or LTD for me.

Don't know about the dealers around your place but around here you wouldn't get much for yours on trade - maybe $13500. You probably won't do much better if you sell it yourself...if you can sell it. I have heard of some dealers who refuse to accept Spyder trades because they have such a hard time selling them. That is not the case everywhere but it indicates a problem.

You got a hell of a deal. Even Louis Motor Sports couldn't do that. They are in TX just east of big "D". Usually the best prices in the country. I always use there prices as leverage when I buy locally. They offered me $14,500 for my RT-S and $21,500 for a 2014 RT-S or $23,500 for the RT-LTD. I think your dealer flunked math or he really wanted to get rid of the RT you bought. Good on you.

Those are pretty close to the numbers for the "S" & LTD up here - he had two base RTs, a white (SE) on an black one (SM & $1K cheaper). I bought the white one. After I bought mine, several dealers offered Base RTs for $18 - $19.5K to move them, there are none left, for obvious reasons. The 2014 base has the older fenders, no driver floorboards, no electronically adjustable rear shock, no frunk liner, no analog gas or temp gauge, & no fog lights, but has all the important stuff - radio, iPod connectivity, cruise, heated grips, adjustable windshield, etc. Was that worth the $3K difference, to some yes, to me, no.

I've spent about $1500 dialing the RT in, for me - so I'm still money ahead, & I have a 1330/SE6 that I could afford to write a check for.

Paint or payment, that seems to be the choice. I have a 2012 and love it, and I have ridden the 2014 RT and the F3 and while they are better with the 1330 I am not ready to kick my 2012 to the curb. For me it's the money.

I did the 2012 to 14. No looking back. Besides smoothness, power, handling, you get much better mgps and no valve adjustment.

Yes, the maintenance savings and mpg increase will not pay for the bike in even 100k miles, but it's a nice sweetener to get you into the 1330.

More juice for all my heated stuff was nice too, and I like the blacked out look of the -S. I would have taken a base if they had a SM6 base, but the only SM6 they had was in the -S.

Ok, you asked for it; here's my .02

You have a 2012 that you've owned for a little over a year now and you've only 7500 miles on it. If we're being honest here, you say you're thinking about the bigger 1330 for touring, but have you really done any yet. I know 'distance' is relative cause it means different things to everyone, but I couldn't justify the cost of trade in based on that one. In my first year, I put over 10k on the bike and I consider that barely riding it.

Now, on the pro side, with such low millage on your current ride, you should get a fair trade, but don't expect to get anywhere near what you paid for it. It lost 5k when you drove it off.

Another consideration, do you have the matching RT-622. You'll probably want to get that painted to match the new bike...there's more cost right there if so.

Yeah some of your add-on mods will come over, but others will not. You've got all new farkles to buy. That could be pro or con depending on how you look at it.

And then there's that old "do I really need to upgrade, or do I just want a new bike" question to ask one's self.

Now that was all the devil's advocate stuff, the bottom line will come down to 'do what makes you happy'.
We don't have much time on this rock, so make the best of it.
If you want that new ride, and you have the SO's blessing...you go for it.
