Dealer resposes

About 2 weeks ago, I sent an email to 4 different canam dealers in central Florida asking for pricing on changing the rear tire and the price of the oil change kit. I also asked if tires other than oem were available, like the kuhmo. Only one dealer replied, the others apparently don't need the business. The dealer that reply said they only had the Kendra, which I expected and it was $132.99 for the tire plus $178.00 installation.:yikes::yikes:. also said if I brought in my own tire it would be $188.00 to install.
I can get the Kuhmo delivered for about $85 and I will find a shop to install. I have Lamont's video and other directions to pull the tire myself and keep belt adjustment.
The oil change kit is only $56.99 for oil, filter,gasket, o-rings and a set of plugs.
Was surprised that 3 out of 4 did not respond.

most shops have different hourly rates. I know the big o guy told me the could mount & balance if I removed it

It also surprises that many dealers don't make much effort to go out for any additional business. They take what comes through the door and that is it.

I ran into the same when I wanted to rent a pair of :spyder2:'s on my last vacation. Contacted them months in advance and then when I re-contacted them a couple weeks prior to the event--nothing. They lost out on a $500 plus rental. :dontknow:

in many cases the person that first sees that email may not care and does not mark it unread or deletes it. But it is true that most dealers are multidealers and brp roadsters are not there bread and butter so they don't pay close attention...if any of those you contacted did depend on them they would get back to you...if you are able do it yourself you save a bundle...:thumbup:

I think there is a different mentality in the automotive/motorcycle shop area. I know the shop I take my Spyder to is usually at least a week out. But that being said it seems that there is not a connection between good service being something offered not necessarily right now but in the future. I sold new and used cars in the late 70's and early 80's and I know it was easy to blow off "tire kickers" and not follow up. Took me awhile not to listen to the herd and follow up on these contacts. Made for a better paycheck. It is hard for shops to get past this week's business because next week is already filling up. Not an excuse for iffy operations just an observation. :gaah:

I think you hit the nail on the head...Also,there is a big lag between motorcycle customer service compared to automotive customer service...The automotive manufacturers and dealerships pepper you with surveys after a sales or service purchase...In 5 years,between purchasing 2 SPYDERS,always servicing at the dealer,I have been surveyed twice.

More and more I am learning how much I have to be thankful for here, having Martin Deerline as my Can Am Spyder dealership, specialists.
Just for comfort, I have told them so, on several occasions already.
Please continue doing it right.
Already looking forward to my first 1000km maintenance visit on Tuesday.

Then I'm going to a Tire Warehouse dealership, only to fill all three of my tires with Nitrogen...

Email is a funny thing. Awesome to convey messages and so forth, not so good always on pricing. The reason is you could print it and go to your local dealer and say "see, they charge this much".

Not as bad as mailorder pricing, but similar when you are considering purchase at the local dealer.

Having worked in a motorcycle shop, it can be pretty crazy sometimes with pricing and labor.

Ultimately the to bottomlines, service quality and customer service, second is price.

Sometimes it costs a little more to go first class.

Give each a call and you will probably get a the answers.

Feel you pain!

I moved from Central Florida and that is a problem there with most places. There is a cycle shop in St Cloud called Mid Town Cycles that is fantastic! Darren and Linda are the salt of the earth and very knowledgeable and great mechanics. They are very fair in pricing so tell them Jim Lewis sent you and they will take care of you! :yes:

If you have a motorcycle tire shop near you they should be able to mount and balance the tire for you. Some will even install them. Are you near Central Florida Powersports? I have only heard good things about them.

WOW! YIKES! RUN!:yikes::yikes::yikes: My dealer wants $110.00 for the tire and $64.00 for install. I am going to order a Kumho next week & have a local tire shop install it. I will remove it and reinstall myself!

i work at a shop that does mounting and balancing and I'm hoping I can do mine myself but if not I'll remove it and take it to someone who can.

When I am down in the Kissimmee/Orlando area I go to Central Florida Power Sports. When I am here at home in the Pensacola area, I use Gulf Shores Power Sports they are just shy of 50 miles from me.

Also, IMHO, the best Spyder dealer in central Florida is Central Florida Power Sports in Kissimmee. Period.

Did you tell Barney's you were bringing a car tire? I got the same response from them as you. Sure being in your tire and we can put it on. So I set up the appointment and took it in. When they saw it was a car tire they refused to do it. After 45 minutes of going back and forth with them they finally did it. When they finished and I got my key back I was told that they would no longer be able to service my bike because the car tire was unsafe. I now go to either West Coast powersports in Clearwater or Central Powersports in Kissimmee. They even stock a couple of brands of car tires for the spyder.

Update

After doing some calling around I have found a local bike shop that will change out the tire for $40, cheap enough. I will have $80 for the Kuhmo and $40 mounted and balanced. :thumbup::yes:
My Canam dealer said the oil change kit is $57, includes oil, seals filter and 2 plugs. Thanks for the input guys. :bowdown::clap:
