Dealer price and add-on charges?

I got a call that I can pick up my yellow Spyder on April 8. I've been waiting since last June.

The dealer is Mission Motorsports in Irvine California.

When I had the salesman on the phone I mentioned that other buyers, on an internet forum, had posted about increased pricing or extra large shipping and prep charges being added.

He replied that the price is $15,500 and I told him my understanding at the time I put my deposit down was $14,999. He said we will take it up with the manager when I come in (I know how that usually goes). I then brought up large added shipping and prep charges and his reply was the same about the manager. I'm not looking forward to going through this tomorrow! At this point I have now idea what those added charges will be.

After I have the Spyder, I'll post here the details of my purchase. Several others have done this, but those are spread over this forum. It would be helpful to have a listing of the numbers in one place so people can check on what each dealer does. For some it may be worth driving farther to get the best deal or fewer surprises. For those of us who already have our deposit down there is not much we can do except argue and that probably won't help much.

If I walk away it will cost me $1000.

Hi, I just picked up my spyder on Saturday. The only charges that I have are freight-299, doc fees-40, license fees=65, and sales tax-85.21. The dealer is in Michiagan, not sure how they figured the sales tax. But I am very happy with the dealer and the charges. I hope this helps.

Back in May when I ordered, (from Berts in Covina) silver was 14999 and yellow was $400 more. I believe current MSRP pricing is 500 more across the board. Freight and prep for me was about $600 combined, but I made sure I had those numbers in writing before I placed the order. That is reasonable, though I have heard of some suspect dealers tripling that number.

Just got silver #2929 on Saturday, too.

Even after the snafu over registration, we didn't complain 'cause the price was $15600 + tax, including a seat cover and 12v adapter, neither installed.

Where in Michigan did you get it? I am from MI and I don't know how you got away with virtually no sales tax. However it was, more power to you. Have fun on it, that is the main thing.

In Michigan, sales tax on vehicles is paid at the time of registration. If a Spyder was sold for use out of state, and not registered here, no sales tax would be collected on the vehicle itself, just the accessories, prep, etc.

Thanks Scotty, I have learned that but if you look at his post, he says he paid $85.21 in sales tax at the Michigan dealer. That doesn't make any sense to me. That is all.

Hi, and my spyder will be registered in Indiana. I think I had to pay sales tax on the extras I purchased for the spyder. The sales tax in Indiana just went up to 7% last Tuesday. I would saved alittle by titling the spyder in Michiagan.

Yup! The tax you paid was on dealer prep, etc. I just got a similar quote for a unit in FL to be titled in TX.

Thanks, that information is helpful. I had originally ordered silver and later changed to yellow and I had forgotten about the extra $400 for yellow. So I won't be upset about paying $15,500, if that is how it is, because that is close to the original price quoted for yellow.

The $600 freight and prep sounds good. Since we are both in SoCal it helps to know that. If they try to convince me that shipping is a lot more, then I have a number to go by.

I'm also buying a Kendon folding utility trailer from them, so I can trailer the Spyder (if I choose to do so) and some of my other "toys". This should give me a little more leverage in dealing with them, since the trailer is priced at $2400. The Kendon folding trailers are great because I can stand it upright at the back of my garage.

I got mine there, Silver # 59, I paid about 17600 out the door but remember the yellow costs more.

good luck

K so I posted the same issue before I went to pick up mine I even printed out others quotes that I found on the internet but they were from different states. They quoted me 19,500 over the phone the day before I went down there and said we would talk about it when I got in. I rolled my eyes as well.. So I get down there in lake Elsinore and they show me the charges I don't know what happend to the 19,5k cuz these were the charges:
Prep799
Freight 899
tax 1300
lic,title,reg 199
price was 14999
I paid 18,199 for the bike
plus my 1000 dollar down payment
with another 600 down on top of it
financed 16499 for 84mos @ 309 a month

I asked if I agreed to pay the 18 if they would throw in a helmet and jacket. I got a 400 dollar helmet but no jacket. My roomates just bought their street bikes from mission motorsports and they received a helmet and jacket for purchasing their bikes but you have to ask!
I herd some guys got theres in so cal after fighting for hours for around 17500 OTD so I did not mind payn 18k I just wanted to get the bike I had been waiting forever. It seems the best bet is to get it in writing when you order it. Alot of people have been stopping me asking how much I tell them 15 but they have to be careful who they order it from. One guy told me Sat morn that Bert's automall in covina is now selling theres for 21,000. I really dislike bike dealerships after seeing how they purposely try to rip off customers because of popularity. It is business and I understand supply and demand but whatever happend to customer service?

O'well I got it and love it taking it to the angel game tomarrow I can only begin to imagine the explaining I will be doing there.

Okay, that makes sense. Yup we are at 6%, I miss the good ole days of 4% tax. Oh well, I know a lot of you guys pay even more than that.

Wow..... and I was upset at Delaware raising their sales tax on vehicles.... I'll be paying 2.75 % on my spyder because of my order date being before Oct. of 2007..... after then, they raised it to 3.25..... and later this year to 3.75...... 6 or 7% would suck!

Ok, here's the bad news. I took delivery of a yellow Spyder at Mission Motorsports in Irvine CA yesterday.

The base price had gone from $15,399 when I made my deposit in June to $15, 499 so that wasn't a big deal except for a "mistake" by the salesman who told me there was still an adder of $400 for yellow making it $15,899. I knew that wasn't true - thanks to this forum - and it came back down to $15,499.

The big whopper was the $5,000 + they wanted to add for "shipping and prep". It seems that these machines are selling so well and people are waiting in line thatthe dealer just keeps pushing the price up. So we were talking over $20,500 + tax, lic, etc.

My numbers ended up at approximately $15,500 + $3,000 "shipping and prep" over $18,500 + doc, tax, lic, etc. I had gone in there expecting and adder of about $1000 so $3K didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

That total amount is considered the price of the vehicle.

I went ahead and bought the Spyder (and a Kendon utility trailer) but I told anyone who was within earshot that I was very unhappy with what the dealer had done. They probably didn't have any idea how close I was to walking out and forgetting about the Spyder. I would have purchased the trailer anyway because I needed that for my other "toys".
