• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dealer found water in ECM connector & I felt as though I was being blamed.

I just called dealer regarding status of Bike. Dealer informed me they found water in ECM connector. He said he would have to call BRP as to how to proceed. The gentleman at dealer started asking me if the bike had been in the rain, if I use a power washer to clean the bike and any modifications. I asked him what this had to do with anything? I would think this bikes can be driven in the rain and can be washed with a garden hose. I told him perhaps BRP should put better connectors on these bikes. I didn't buy this bike to just ride in sunny weather. Everyone knows it rains, bikes get dirty and they should be cleaned. Has anyone else had this same experience?

How do you clean a :spyder2:?????

I had a similar experience but not with our Spyders, it was my wifes 09 Sportster. The dealer ask similar questions and I gave them pretty much the same responses as you did. They fixed the problem by adding some dielectric grease at the connection.

Then you should be good to go go!
For the record; I use a garden hose, but I make every effort to avoid spraying water on the controls on the handlebars, or the display panel...
Or the inlet vents by the mirrors
or under the seat at all!

water

most connectors are water tight not water proof, so unless you washed the bike than sank it into a tub of water to clean it off i don't think you will have a problem

I've climbed all over my RT, inside and out.

I'm the first to admit that my wrenching ability, especially compared to you know who and you know who is strictly bush league
But I have spent a fair amount of time with wiring and connectors.

Water can enter any connector but the connectors I have seen on the Spyder are first rate.
If the connector was put together right water should not enter even when sprayed with a high pressure hose

The routing of the wires is more important than the connector in most cases.

Water tends to follow wires and if the wiring is improperly designed or has been moved it can follow the wires through and deposit itself on the pins, bit by bit.
Once there, it stays.

Do you think it's possible the dealer could have moved something while installing GPS system or servicing the bike that could have affected the routing of these wires.

so..!!

What part of the spyder do you use the hose on..?? Or just take a drink and put the hose away..:roflblack::roflblack:

We have little rain and I don't use water to wash mine at all. Protect all spray and micofiber cloths. Most of ours is dust and dirt I blow off with compressed air. but seems I see this before posted here..

I'm not sure if you should feel blamed. Any good tech would have asked those kind of questions, in order to learn the cause and nature of the problem. Of course we can't hear his tone of voice. If you feel you were wronged, speak to the dealership owner or find another dealer. At any rate, yours is not the first to see this problem. A few ECM pins have been badly corroded, which likely started with moisture in the connection. The Deutsch type connectors work well most of the time, but can be faulty, nicked during assembly or service, or water can sneak by if high pressure washed...perhaps during assembly or service. If it leaked during riding in the rain, the problem is more severe and the tech would certainly want to look real hard for the reason, since rain cannot be avoided like pressure washing can. The problem is not normal, and it is not common. Be glad it was discovered in time to prevent complete ECM failure.

..
Yup! After I drink the water...

:roflblack: I actually try to just keep any of the spray out of the electricals...
