I've been pleased with my dealer so far and like them as good folks to do business with. They bolted the BRP Driver's Backrest on and let me ride it for several hundred miles before deciding to buy it, which I thought was a great idea since seats and seat rests can't be evaluated on a short 10 mile ride. I loved it and bought it by the way.
Just got a call this morning from the service manager wanting to set up the 600 mile first service appointment. I mentioned that I seemed to remember reading the new engine doesn't need it's first service until 3,000 miles and he said no, it is 600. He had to research another question and said he'd call me back in a while. Meantime I pull up a PDF version of the Owner's Manual and sure enough, on page 120 it says first service is at 3,000 miles. He calls back and I quote that and he was surprised to hear that was the interval and would look into it. Meanwhile he was ordering parts for me.
I'm thinking the new maintenance schedule just caught him off guard and he was used to other year models and other bikes requiring 600 mile service, but I'm wondering what set of services they were going to do other than an oil change? Don't they follow a maintenance procedure to check valve clearance, belt tension, etc.?
