... I received the December issue in the mail today and to my surprise, they had a very positive review of the Spyder... by a former CW editor (Steven L Thompson) who lost the use of his left leg in a two-wheeler accident in 2004.

The guy actually had a bungy cord holding his left foot on the peg (loosely)... pretty cool.

The last sentence says it all:

"... the Spyder Roadster is a machine that can transform a drive into a ride and a trip into an experience capable of bringing grins where grins have faded. "

That was my experience, also. Grins where grins had faded... summed it up rather well.

:agree:I agree it was a very positive review however they quote the fuel miles as 58 plus MPG, wow, I know the review was on the SE5 but no matter what speed you ride a :spyder:I cannot belive, (or would like to know) how 58 mpg was obtained. May be it was going downhill for a hundred miles or so?

The :spyder:is a great machine, I had to part with my Ultra due to a medical issue, but I can still ride in the open air and enjoy being 'on my bike' and do not have the worry about the balance when slowing to a stop and thats worth a bunch too.

The :spyder:is a great machine, I had to part with my Ultra due to a medical issue, but I can still ride in the open air and enjoy being 'on my bike' and do not have the worry about the balance when slowing to a stop and thats worth a bunch too.

If I got 58MPG with my Spyder, I would be doing cartwheels! Especially when gas goes back up to $4 per gallon, or more.

Finally a write-up that's not trying to cowtow to the "purists". The mileage stated was 53 miles per gallon, and the qualifier was "the Ride For Kids run at speeds never exceeding 45 mph." The ride must have been on really level ground. If I could manage to keep under 45 mph, I might get above the 30-35 mpg that's the real world average. Personally, I liked the part comparing the Spyder to a Formula car, and the statement about "the Spyder's dynamics trump the fun-factor of a sports car by a huge margin". He did understand the "grin factor", too.

Back to the basics. Real nice article. I liked how he emphasized the differences instead of tearing them down. Good analysis. I also liked his thoughts that he could modify whatever needed tweaking, as we all seem to do. No griping, just adjustments. The sidebar from the pillion standpoint was interesting, too. Wonder if he'll buy one now that he had a taste of riding again.
