• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Cursed .......When does This BS Stop ??????

Picked up my new silver RT with the audio stuff just after lunch today.. Went for a little run around the lake - about a 50 mile trip. After approx. 40 miles the dreaded engine light came on ... check this ... check that .... limp home. Made it back the 10 miles to the dealership - Pissed as hell. They checked the readings - DPS codes and another code. Since it was almost closing time today, they cleared the codes and I drove it on home. Made it the 8 miles back home OK. I've had the same problems with one of our other two 08 RS's. When does this BS stop ? How can I ever be confident that I can actually "tour" - Can't imagine being 200 miles from my dealer and "limping" home .... love the Spyder when it's working but it scares the absolute hell out of me.

Check your battery connections. Lots of new ones have been loose...mine were. That can cause problems like this.

Mine had loose battery terminals and the wiring to the dps was pulled tight. When they eased the wiring on the plug so that it had some room to move I have not had a problem (touch wood). I am having my 5000Klm service on Tuesday, I am hoping that they don't fix anything to make it all go to custard.:spyder:

I hate to say it but this is more about the dealer not doing the proper PDI and just handing you the Spyder. If I remember right the dealer is suppose to drive it for a 1/2 hour before turning it over to the customer. It may be time to find a new dealer.

Listen to LaMonster

I guess I am among the fortunate ... knock on wood. My dealer is Pete's Cycle in Baltimore, MD. They have given me and my RT-S (PE 0391) nothing less than red-carpet treatment. The service manager and mechanics are wonderfully qualified. I've never had a problem since taking physical possession of the Spyder in early March. When properly prep'd and inspected, the Spyder RT is quite bullet proof. Moving up on 2500 miles.

Ditto...my experience exactly. I am starting with a new warranty dealer because I purchased in IL (excellent dealer - Dockside Marina) had my 600 service in North Platte, NE (another excellent dealer - Budke Powersports). New dealer will be Roundy's in Spokane...hopefully same experience as they are my closest and they re 3 1/2 hrs. away (one way!!). But I love my Spyder and how she performs...but after reading on here for awhile have to admit I sort of wonder if "the other shoe is going to drop">>>>>Sun is out today..means Spyder time..

You hit the nail on the head Lamont, I see the same thing far to offten at our store from other dealers who just slaped it together and gave it to them......guess its really the service departments fault but yes we as a whole need to work on all stepping up our game as the dealer......You guys always make it easy to see what we all need to work on as dears, thanks and so sorry guys!

Update From Cursed

I've put another 100-150 miles on my new RT - SE5 since they cleared the DPS and communication error code. But I did have a strange thing happen yesterday .... pulled up to a red light normal speed and braking and the unit just died. Also there seems to be a miss in the engine that happens intermittently - may happen twice in 5 minutes and then not for 20 minutes later - happens anywhere - straight flat roads, curves, hills etc. no method to the madness. I'm to the point now that if I make it back home each trip without something screwing up ... I feel somewhat lucky. :dontknow:

The miss will take some troubleshooting by the dealer...and maybe a few visits and some time to track down, like all intermittent problems. There is a pending recall for the stalling problem on 2010 SE5s. Have you dealer order the parts, ut you may have a couple of weeks to wait. You should get a letter regarding this soon.

THIS pending recall you mention: Is this the one about the clutch issue on the SE5's or is this a new one? If new, do you have more specifics so I can call dealership and they can add to my list of "to do's". Thanks.

Hey Fleet,,,, In your post you didn't mention looking at the Battery Terminals,, did you see if by chance they may be a bit loose? I will mention that I'm thinking its worth looking at for now as other members have mentioned... Best of Luck with your issuies...

Thanks for the info...I have been looking for success (dealer) stories...I have been to Pete's Cycle and it seems to be an above board business.:2thumbs:

Yep ... Checked the Battery

Yes .... checked the battery connections - tight. I'm hoping that with the code resets and recall fixes that my confidence level will increase. In any case, although I normally don't do this, I opted for the additional 3 year warranty. I figured if they can't fix the existing problems and any future ones in 5 years then I need to get a moped ... ha - Plus the warranty is transferrable if I sell it. That's always a carrot to a prospective buyer. Plus with the extended warranty - if you don't use it - you get your full original purchase price back at the end of the 5 years. It's not cheap - 899 or so - but I figure 899 dollars can be spent in a heartbeat at a dealership if it's out of warranty IMO.

INSTRUMENT PROBLEMS

My display kept going off and on with varying crazy codes being displayed. After four trips to dealer and a replaced battery and coil, the latest fix is to replace the entire display package. Took delivery again yesterday. Hope this is the fix. Twice the brand new 2010 RTS stopped running while at highway speed....scary. Still no answer for that. Anyone have similar problems? Other than that, I think I love the scooter....just need to develop some confidence in it.
