Cruise control issue

Is the cruise control suppose to auto disengage when you turn on the turn signals?

Mine has been doing this and cannot remember if it always did it or something I did.

And how fast in mph before it will engage.

I'm thinking I messed something up causing this.

Thanks

I thought mine was having issues too. The manual says 15mph, but as I was playing with it this past weekend, it will not set the speed if the rpm's are below 3k. Kept trying to engage it and it would not take, I downshifted and it was at 4k, and it engaged. It will also shut off if you go below 3k.

I have had no issues with it dis-engaging when using the turn signals. Someone posted elsewhere that they were able to engage at 26 mph but not at 25mph. You should not be using your cruise if your rpm's are below 3500--something about the clutch slipping.

I recommend using it at 45 or higher on highways. Very dangerious to use it in town IMO.

I've never heard of it disengaging because of the turn signals. But if you are turning a corner you're going too slow and that would make it turn off.

I use my cruise control on the highways and yes I use my turn signals to change lane, it does not disengage the cruise control.

OK thanks for all the replies.

I added a wiring harness for my trailer using a 5 wire to 4 wire converter.

Not using the BRP trailer or wiring harness.

All the lights work like they should, its just the cruise control shutting off with the turn signals.

Only happens with the trailer connected however, and they are all LED's on the trailer.

I may have to install a powered converter.

Has anyone installed a certain model converter where all has worked as it should.

Thank you, much appreciated for the help.

:agree: Cruise is for the highway, not riding through town. Auto manufacturers often warn about this (and use in bad weather). I'm surprised BRP's raft of lawyers didn't mention it.

Just an FYI,

I have a none BRP trailer, the hitch and Spyder wiring to the saddle bag socket is all BRP.

I purchased the BRP harness 710002029 that goes between the Spyder and their trailer. Cut the trailer end off and wired to a 4 pin plug for my trailer.

Again no issue with cruise control and being canceled by turn signals. Does it cancel from both left and right or just one direction? Just thinking it might be a short some where.

It cancels with both directions and only with trailer connection so I'm thinking either the load or maybe some feedback
causing it.

If its feedback a powered converter may do the same thing.

I might experiment by adding a couple of diodes to further isolate the circuit.

Turns cancelling

I also pull a non BRP trailer and have no problems with the turn signals.I used the BRP trailer connector and rewired to my 4 pin wiring .

One other thought, know anyone around your area that as another trailer that does not do this.

You could try there trailer and see if it still does it then you know the issue is at the Spyder end. They could try your trailer and see if the same happens to them.

Keep us posted on if the diodes/power converter works.

good luck

I have heard of this happening when not using the BRP trailer harness. There's another thread here where someone has this same complaint. I towed a non-BRP trailer to Colorado, using the BRP harness, and had no issues.

Ahah! You found your problem. The converter is mixing signals for the trailer and backfeeding to Spyder.. thus making it seem you hit the brakes when you're only using turn signal.

Considering the problems people have had with such wiring harnesses.... I've decided I'm going to re-wire my trailer and keep the running, brake and turn signals ALL separate and just tap into the brake, running and turn signals on the Spyder directly. Most trailers are not wired to work that way.. but since I built mine I can easily change the wiring up.

:agree: Solid state converters doen't isolate the signals well. There is always some bleed. They don't even work on some automobiles...including my Ford truck. Vehicles with electronic controls seem to like them the least.

I think that is the smart way to go.

I'm about ready ta just add a 5 wire plug to both the trailer and Spyder and add a center brake light on trailer.

Dump the converter and I can still keep the 4 wire plug on trailer connected for when someone else wants to use it.
