Covers and keeping strangers off?

I have the spyder sisters cover for my RSS and it's perfect, easy to put on and take off, and looks great too. A lot better than some of the covers I've seen posted in this thread IMO.

I have the BRP Travel cover. It works well. I also have an after-market full cover - not as fancy as the BRP full cover, but it fits great and was half the price. With either one, people really can't sit on the bike. The travel cover is much easier and faster to deploy and put away.

I have 3 covers,the BRP travel cover, plus a X-large regular motorcycle storage cover that roles up as small as the BRP travel cover but is not totally waterproof and a X-large full motorcycle cover, waterproof and folds up quite small for travelling. The motorcycle covers cover the total spyder except the front fenders and cost $50.00 on sale at Princes Auto which is like your Harbour freight. I have an RT-L and cut 2 holes for the antenas and the covers look like they are made for the spyder.

It's called the SPY 5000m. I got it on Ebay for $90. Super simple to install. You wont be installing the wires for the auto start or kill because of the BRP propriety can-buss. But that's not an issue. 4 wires and your done for what we need.

BUT make sure you get the one with the microwave antenna (for people getting in the Y) as many Ebay sellers do not include that.

Lamont, I like that decal! But do you leave the IPS key in when away from the Spyder. I thought about getting one of those, but the idea of actually using it (as intended) scares the heck out of me. :shocked:

I have one of those and, though many people are extremely interested in my Spyder, none that I know of have tried to sit on it without permission.

Just wondering, would sticking something over the safety card void your warranty? I know it sounds stupid but aren't we supposed to read that thing everytime before we start the engine... (even though most of you already know it by heart...)

As for the covers I'm really loving all the suggestions given would the 'sun' covers also provide protection in the rain or aren't they rain proof? It rains quite a lot here which is why I'm asking. I'd hate to have a soaked seat after I purchased a cover to prevent just that. How is the stock seat with rain anyway?

I don't think you'd have any issues with warranty - I don't suppose a dealer would even check it for a start. If you really wanted to be sure then take a copy of the safety notice and put it in your frunk then you could just say you had relocated it. I think there's a copy in he handbook anyway.

I made mine by printing it out and then covering both sides in that clear sticky plastic thats normally used for school books. It's held in place with some double sided tape so would be quire easy to remove if needed.

Anyway my defence would be "Lamont's covered his so it must be ok"

The Nelson-Riggs travel cover will keep the seat dry, I imagine that the BRP will do the same. If you are attempting to buy online the item description should tell you if it is waterproof.

Websites like Amazon.com and Leatherup.com all have covers that are cheaper than the BRP models. I use a full cover on mine. It at least gives the appearance of being more protected. As far as keeping people off it, you have to rely on their common sense about respecting other peoples possessions. Which basically means you aint got a chance in H*** of doing it, short of never leaving it alone. I do suggest rat traps on the seat to keep the curious off it.

I use a full cover, mostly for winter storage ! I have never had anyone set on my spyder ! And I won't ! As for the partial covers - I just put any apparel [ jacket, sweat shirt, or helmets over/on the seat, this usually stops anyone from setting on the spyder !!!!! I guess you just have to rely on peoples common sense to stay the hell of your ride !!!!! Then again I usually am within in sight of anyplace I park the spyder !!!!!

Prefer 1/2 cover

Also have the systers, but not as "handy" to use or complete cover as the 1/2 cover. Had it for years and good as new. Use 1/2 all the time when traveling and never had an issue. Have had folks when talking to me act like they are going to throw a leg over and I "kindly" say please don't...once got the rude dude :yikes:...not so politely told him My Spyder My rules...:thumbup:

The day I bought my Spyder, I had to leave it outside. It was Saturday night and it was totally unacceptable to even think about coming out to dew on my beautiful new Spyder. I bought an extra large generic motorcycle cover at Walmart and covered it that night. I used electrician's cutters to clip two holes for the antennas. Finally it came with a small bag to store it. It keeps the sun and rain off and discourages idiots from thinking about sitting on it. I have a beautiful Can Am cover that now has never been out of the box.
