• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Covers and keeping strangers off?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering how you guys and girls prevent strangers from trying out your ride. I had a BMW F800GT before the incoming Spyder RT and even then I had issues with people trying to get on my bike and things like that. I'm very protective of my rides and don't let anyone touch them or sit on them without permission. I can only assume people will be even more interested in the Spyder than they were in my Beemer. Is there a way to prevent people crawling all over it?

Also looking for the most suitable cover for an RT 2012 to use while out on trips. At home the Spyder will be sleeping in the garage and used almost daily so storing him in day-to-day use shouldn't be a problem. It needs some cover for when we go on trips so for example parking lots at B&B and campings. Travel cover or full cover? Are there worthy alternatives to the expensive official covers I should be looking at?

Websites like Amazon.com and Leatherup.com all have covers that are cheaper than the BRP models. I use a full cover on mine. It at least gives the appearance of being more protected. As far as keeping people off it, you have to rely on their common sense about respecting other peoples possessions. Which basically means you aint got a chance in H*** of doing it, short of never leaving it alone. I do suggest rat traps on the seat to keep the curious off it.
 
I have the BRP Travel cover. It works well. I also have an after-market full cover - not as fancy as the BRP full cover, but it fits great and was half the price. With either one, people really can't sit on the bike. The travel cover is much easier and faster to deploy and put away.

Comments about the rude and curious bystanders climbing on bikes led me to use the BRP travel cover whenever we park away from our garage.

It also protects the seats and dash from the sun and bird droppings. It's easy to deploy and store in the side case.

as for people sitting on your ride.... YIKES... :yikes: i agree...
when i bought mine in '09, there were NONE in the Greenville, SC area for the most part.... i couldn't pull into a gas station without people flocking around to see what this thing was... people would ask if they could sit on it, fathers/mothers would ask if they could take a picture of Junior on it, etc etc etc... and that was ok with me... but when i left my SPYD3R to go inside the gas station and came out and someone was sitting on it, that Pee'd me off to no end... i had one IDIOT sitting on it twisting the throtle saying VAROOM VAROOM.... i could have booted his butt to China....

The Spyder Sisters Sun Shade does a great job at keeping folks from climbing on my Spyder when parked somewhere in public. It also keeps the seat at ambient temperature, rather than getting hot in the sun in the summer. It stores in a pouch that is part of it and takes up very little space. It goes on and off, very quickly and easily and fits the RT very well.

I have used half covers for years on two wheelers and now on the Spyder. I prefer the Nelson-Riggs version, but any cover is going to achieve the purpose of keeping the idiots off your ride.
 
Steering wheel lock

In another section of the forum, someone also suggested locking your steering where you turn the bars full lock to either side. It made it more difficult for someone to get on.
 
Does the spyder sisters cover work with the RT Antenna? All the pictures I saw with the cover on the RT,there is no antenna on the bike.
 
:yikes: WOW :yikes: I must be ugly as hell or smelly like s--t or a pretty scary guy because I never caught anyone on my Spyders or was ever asked to sit on them :dontknow: Maybe its New Jersey and they respect what we ride :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:
 
I installed a $90 alarm system that will go off if someone walk into the Y area. So not only keeps them off but also keeps them from touching and playing with it. I did this because I too walked out of a store to find a-holes sitting on my spyder.

push him off don't hit him, call the police & tell them it appeared as if he was trying to steal your bike.

Sad that we have to even worry about such a thing as morons who feel it is okay to just jump on someone's ride.

That said, the previous posters have you "covered." Pardon the pun. :roflblack:

IMO: the cover with the least hassle is the smaller one. It is a pain (for me anyway), to attach and take off the full travel cover.

The dash sign is also great--providing the morons can read. :roflblack:
