• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Counting Cars--Episode featuring a Spyder

Spoiler Alert: The Sypder was an older SM5 (owner paid 9K) converted for a 4'1" tall rider. Original bike was black/silver with some stick-on (?) graphics. For the show it was painted purple with a devil/demon mural on the frunk. For me the best part was seeing the Sypder running up and down the street naked with no tupperware. Also the end shot riding off with two raked out choppers.

Best of luck to the new owner/rider! He seems like a cool dude. Look like he might need better seat.

Since this is "reality" TV the only thing I doubt is if the "Counting Cars" shop did all the work and the price of the work they quoted on the show. If you have never taken the plastic off a Spyder I would think you would blow your entire budget just taking it off and back on.

I liked the final outcome and it is not the first time that Danny and his crew have made major engineering changes to adapt a bike for a handicapped rider - remember when they took a guys cherished Harley and added a sidecar that he could put his wheelchair in. They also moved all the controls to the sidecar. I think there was much more of a challenge in that build but the outcome was the same - the owner was back on the street with a big smile on his face.

There was a very clear picture of the final Spyder and there is no doubt in my mind that it was an SE 5. You can clearly see the paddle shift. All in all, I think the show was a good, positive view of the Spyder.

They must have switched bikes! The original silver/black bike clearly had a clutch lever. I remember thinking to myself that a better doner bike would have been a semi-auto. LOL. This reminds me of those cooking shows where they put a raw pie in the over and then pull out a golden brown one 30 seconds later.

I'm a nimrod with computers, So if someone could find a posting that shows a little person riding a Spyder, It has been posted at least two times over the years in SL, And from the pictures it looks like not as much changes were needed for the rider to ride, [mostly foot pegs] as was done in last nights show. Also if memory serves me a few years ago there was a height challenged member of SL from Brooklyn NY.

I have The History channel app on my iPad, but that show won't play? It doesn't even show up in the line up after last night? Maybe I can catch it on one of the times listed above?

Right you are - I just watched the video and they did roll a SM 5 off the trailer but the finished product is an SE 5. Cool none the less.

IMO: The show was better than usual for reality TV. They did talk good about the :ani29: and it did not come off too much like a commercial for BRP--as in CSI program long, long, ago.

Upon close examination--the glitches do show up a little.

I also thought they started with an SM5 and ended up with a SE5. Can anyone confirm for sure--as if we really needed to know? :roflblack:

Also had concerns about the rider staying on the :spyder2: if it were to encounter some serious g forces or an accident.

RE: Gloryders: Yes, or something similar.

I liked the paint job also--but not the subject matter.

Ann or ARR wil have to let us know if they see the :ani29: out and about.

For sure the Spyder morphed from an SM5 to an SE5 --- which just makes sense.
I suppose they *could* have torn it down and made it into an SE5... but I'm doubting it. I'd bet they sold it and bought an SE5 and then worked on that instead. I mean.. the guy had what.. $9,000 into the Spyder and then told them he can spend another $15k ? For sure could be done for that.

Still cool... but that's the thing about anything on TV.... what you see is only what they want you to see.

I happened to be in my favorite local brewery when they were doing a pilot for a reality show about a brewery and the film crew did a bunch of 'coaching' .. telling people to get angry.... to yell a bit... to get excited, etc..... just trying to make drama.

Overall I think it put the Spyder in a good light for all to see.

Why BRP has not pushed the awesome possibilities of the Spyder for those with disabilities is beyond me.

I am a little person and I have been riding my :ani29: for almost three years now and loving every minute of it.I know what that guy means about being able to ride out on the open rode I thought I would never have a chance to ride a bike until the spyder came along, when I first saw the spyder I knew I had to have one and after I got it I did have to do some customizing to make it driveable for me but all I had to do is put some 4" handlebar risers on it and raise the footpegs and the brake pedal and I was all set. Those handlebars that they put on that guys bike looked awfully scary to drive but at least he is getting a chance to ride.
LOVE MY :spyder2:

I watched the program a second time. The original bike had a clutch lever and a shifter pedal. Then on the finished bike I saw the shifter paddle on the left grip and no shifter pedal at the bottom.

I think some of those mods do not meet "DOT" standards and thus cannot be offered by BRP.
:agree: Plus you have to be careful how you market a vehicle, You don't want to be considered a niche vehicle.
That's one of the reasons Saturn went out of business, They marketed mostly to Woman, Then when they ran out of Woman buyers they were done.

I spoke to a very nice French speaking women from the BRP factory at the NYC motorcycle show a couple years back. I wanted to know why they did make a full auto version. She indicated that they wanted to avoid the "scooter" image. I think they are already fighting the image that it is for older riders.

FYI. Scooters Rock!!!!!!!!!!

So which one of our 'Hollywood' people out here is gonna track this guy down and invite him to Spyderfest???
