• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Cost for 600 mile service

I was originally told it would be about $320.00; but then when I picked it up they said there was a charge for an extra filter with it being an auto. :dontknow:

One thing I know for sure

One thing I know for sure. If you are not mechanically inclined, this machine is expensive to maintain. Hurts me evertime, but it is the price you pay for such a machine.

I know this is an old thread, but since I just asked my dealership today what the charge was for the first scheduled maintenance on the RS I thought I'd report they told me 280 dollars US.

I might add that the reason I was at the dealership was because I had them install a Heli bar and 1" riser for my wife. Now THAT was a dry rape at 712 dollars!! I was going to install it for her myself but I simply had too much on my plate this weekend and figured they would only bill for an hour, but then they told me they'd bill for three (at 90 bucks an hour). I bit the proverbial bullet since I was already there and told them to just do it. That will be my last trip to the dealer. I just ordered the shop manual and plan on keeping tight records of my service and do everything myself from now on.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would give an update on the 600 mile service cost for those in the North Dallas area. I went to Richardson Motorsports and they seem to be all around good guys. Here is the breakdown:

1. 5 quarts oil (4T 12x1 Blend Q) ........... $49.75
2. Oil filter ........................................ $11.88
3. Filter-Oil ....................................... $17.99
TOTAL PARTS ................................... $79.62

Labor: 3 hours at $85.00/hr ................ $255.00

Miscellaneous shop supplies ................. $6.99

Total with tax ................................... $348.76

I did all the oil changes on our SE5 for 2 years and now am doing it for the RT.
No Spyder takes 5 quarts!
What is Filter-Oil?
3 hours labor to change oil is ridiculous! If I took my time on the SE5 I could have changed the oil in one hour. On the RT I can do it in less than 2 hours. And that's without a lift!

And, yes there are things the mechanic is supposed to check besides the oil change, but I have read too many horror stories about Spyders going in for service in perfect condition and come out basket cases. It's not going to happen on mine. Just my habit on any bike I have owned in over 40 years of riding and I have never had on break down on me and I have close to or over 500,000 miles on bikes.
I have the BEST Plus warranty so mine either cost me nothing or $1500 depending on how you look at it. :roflblack:
That's the best explanation "offered up" that I've seen. It really depends on whether you bought a service plan or not in the beginning.

Here's my 600 mile check up. Done at RideNow Rancho in North Las Vegas.

19.98 Oil filter
3.49 copper washer
1.79 copper washer
47.96 4 quarts 4t 12x1
11.99 1 more quart of above (why not just charge for 5?)
149.25 1.5 hours labor ($99/hour...ouch)
20.00 supplies (generic, may have been toilet paper for all I know)

$254.37....AND they didn't even change the transmission filter...and didn't bother to tell me. Also told them my drive belt wasn't gapped from the spocket per specs in OM. They said it was no big deal. Needless to say, I was POd. I groused a bit at the shop. They were pretty apathetic.

I emailed BRP, which then called the shops GM. Then I had a couple calls from BRP corporate and more than a few from the shop. They made it right in that my 3000 mile service will be free. If they manage to do a good job next time around, I'll likely stay, otherwise I'll try my luck down in Henderson for service.

Had I not had problems, it sounds like the cost of my service is on par with everyone elses.

BTW...what's the risk of keeping the transmission filter on until 3000 miles? My shop seems to think it's OK to wait. I'm hoping not much risk.

BRP has issued a Service Bulletin specifying replacement of both filters at every oil change.
