Corbin seat?????

Yesterday, we went to te dealershipto visit our salesman, and let him know how happy we are with our spyder. I mentioned that I was thinking of getting a Corbin seat. He told me that someone brought their Spyder RT in for service, and it had a corbin. He took us out to look at it, and I checked it out... it seems awful hard!! I was instantly talked out of a Corbin. Am I missing something here?

They start out hard, but supposedly do soften up a bit with age and mileage. I guess that it's the shape of the saddle that makes it fit better so the the firmness isn't really that big of an issue...
Lots of folks in here with them can tell you way more than I have...

I have a corbin with back rest the seat is a little hard but is getting better with age.

Try them all, till you find one that suits you. Saddles have to be one of the most personal choices a rider can make. If your butt ain't happy - you won't be.

I just rode to Reno and Back (1240 mile trip) with my corbin. It was well broken in before I left but I was worried as it felt so hard. I felt no discomfort at all other than my back which always hurts. Soft is not always better it seems as I used to suffer horribly from tail bone pain with the stock seat.

As a comparision, I have done this ride every year for the last 3. I would be in so much pain after a 100 miles I could not wait to end the days ride. This time I did 550 miles in a day and felt great.

The other benifit is the gas door, I had luggage on the back seat so I would have had to unload everytime I filled up without it.

Corbin

I've had the Corbin with the backrest for about 3 months now. I really liked it from day one. I had them do the Lamonster Cut version and extra padding to move me forward more and the extra padding in the backrest. I couldn't be happier. Then I tackled the aspect of sweating on the rear................so...................I took my Hubby's AirHawk. :roflblack: Tried it out for a few days and was promptly told to "get your own". So, I did. Sweating problem solved and the seat is even better. Didn't think it could be, but it is. Good Luck! Hope this helps.

It would be very hard for anyone to tell you what seat will work best for you.....like has been said, a very personal choice. You also can't spend enough time on one to test them out, so it really is a crap shoot in my opinion. I gambled on a kontour seat and got lucky it was good for me. Soft is generally not good when talking about seats.

I had 50,000 miles on my Corbin before totaling my Spyder GS and LOVED that seat.

Looking to get one for my new RT soon..... the stock seat is just TOO cushy.....

It takes around 2,000 miles for a Corbin to break in and fit your butt... after that it just gets better and better.

Some people hate them.... I love them.

I think its that cushy feel in the showroom that makes you think the stock seat is comfy when buying, esp. as a newb. I found out after an hour riding that the stock seat was anything but comfy being so cushy.nojoke

I love the stock seat and 500+ mile days are no problem. Sat on a Corbin and it throws me forward - I think because of my long legs. Sat on an Ultimate and didn't care for it either. I didn't like the upgraded RT seat either. It would be nice to have a gas door in the stock seat. Different strokes for different folks..

I have had Corbin's on two of my :spyder2:,s. Put 23,000 miles on the first seat and have 25,000 miles on the second Corbin. Compared to stock, the Corbin is hard feeling. It does eventually shape to your rear--but I have not found is soft or cushy. When I get into squirm mode--I add either the Airhawk or a sheepskin gel seat cover and that gets me through.

Just bought a 2011 and the stock seat feels real cushy compared to the Corbin. Fifty miles later, I am not comfortable at all. We will be getting a different seat for the new 2011 in the near future.

As others have said, soft is not necessarily more comfortable. You need support, and I find my Corbin gives that in spades. I'm not looking for a lounge chair, but a seat that will let me ride in comfort for hours, and my Corbin does just that. In summary, I LOVE MY CORBIN, and would not want a softer seat.

I agree it takes 2,000 miles for the Corbin to break in your butt. I have had about 18 Corbin seats. After the first one, they seemed perfectly normal. You only have to go through the butt break in experience once. My 2011 RT is the first new motorcycle I have had in a very long time that does not have a Corbin seat. So far, I am doing okay.

Had one for 18 months. 750 miles to Spyderfest, and very sore butt (that seat was hard). Had ultimate seat put on at Spyderfest. Rode back 750 miles with no discomfort. I liked the looks of the Corbin, but it didn't like me.
