• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Corbin accessories

So, Lamont, which is it? Love or Hate? ;D

Derwin

I've only had one Corbin that I loved and that was on my Boss Hoss. I had one on my Valk and I hated it. You have to have a Corbin butt for these to work. I think I have a stock butt because most stock seats work fine for me. :dontknow:

A Corbin Butt?? How do I know if I have a Corbin Butt or not? What does a Corbin Butt look/feel like? ;D

So, in other words, your saying that the Corbin seats are pretty hard?

I can only show you what a stock butt looks like but no feeling alowed. ;D

Yes they are hard but sometimes that's a good thing.

My butt is definitely not stock! ::). One of my first mods on every bike I've ever owned has been an aftermarket seat or some kind of a mod to make it to where I can spend a lot of time in the saddle (such as Spencers seat mods .. www.greatdaytoride.com).

I've owned Corbin, Sargent, Bill Mayer Saddles and a seat whose name I've forgotten. I've tried the beads, gel pad, Air Hawk and Alaska Buttpad.

For me, the very best solution has been: Seats - Bill Mayer Saddle. Modification/Pad - Spencer seat mods.

The worse? Seats - Corbin (very hard). Modification/Pad - Standard gel pad

On my Spyder, I sent it to Sargent Seats and they modified the padding and the cover and added some decorative yellow piping. The biggest improvement was the fact that they flattened the seating area to spread the pressure points and now I can ride the Spyder all day without getting "Monkey Butt".

And .... another product that I can highly recommend is: "Monkey Butt" powder. It works!!

Lamont . ...... PLEASE keep your pants on! I hope I don't read about you flashing a bunch of Spyder owners in Canada?! :edit:

Is the Spyder Corbin seat harder than the Spyder stock seat? Heck, according to what you all are saying, I may not get a Corbin seat. I don't want to get monkey-butt from the thing! But, seriously, I would like to know if anybody has a Corbin seat installed on their Spyder right now. If you do, is it nice and soft, or is it hard like they are saying?

I have had only one Corbin seat, and I hated that brick so much I finally put the stock seat back on. On a Honda 550, that only means a slightly different shape of brick. Most of the wide seats, like the Sargent and Russel, are too wide in the front, and put my legs to sleep on a bike. Could be different on a Spyder, since you don't put your legs down. I even had to stick with the standard seat instead of the comfort seat on my BMW. I use a sheepskin on that for long hauls, and raising the front of it helped a lot. The stock Spyder seat is by far and away the most comfortable one I have ever ridden on. I think it is really a matter of your own shape, the seat shape, your natural padding, and the seat padding. What works for some, won't for others. I suggest you get the Spyder, ryde a while, then decide. Also try some of the different brands of seats, if you can talk someone into letting you sit on one. It is a very, very individual thing!

When I sat on the Spyder when I test drove it, the seat seemed VERY comfortable to me. But I really like the backrests that Corbin has. Is there a way to have the Corbin backrests installed on the Spyder, without changing the seat?

Derwin

Short answer.....NO ......you would have to do major brain surgery and install a receiver in the stock SPYDER seat.
The Corbin saddle is structured in design and materiel to accomadate their backrest!

Well, crap. That means the ONLY way to get a backrest would be to get the Corbin cement seat? I guess I won't be getting a backrest!

Derwin

No, I said some folks like 'em, some folks don't.... pretty much like every other accessory you can buy for your Spyder. They are typically "firm". Some folks never get used to them, others do. I'm one of the "like 'em" folks.

To me, leather is much cooler than vinyl, it looks better, and the backrests... don't forget about the backrests!

FWIW, on a Corbin for an ST1300, I did have to take it apart and transplant some foam. It was a brick. The Corbins for the Valk, HDs, VTX and GW were great just as they came from the factory.

Even though Corbin << typically >> pop-rivets the cover on the pan, you can easily take the seat apart and do your own mods, if you just can't resist. ;D

Cool. I think I would have to actually sit on a Corbin seat before buying it. That's a whole lot of money to invest in something that you may not like. Thanks for the information.

Derwin

Don't forget that you can always resell it for a 20-30% reduction. Typically, you can get about 70% of almost any accessory you buy if you tire of it. So... you're not looking at a $900 loss... more like $200.

Also, there are no Corbins on the road right now... will take a while as with any new bike/trike/roadster/Spyder.

I've been through this new model thingy before. It's kind of like being a pioneer. :2cool:

I talked to "Sergio" today at Corbin. He says they're runnung 6 to 8 weeks on Spyder orders. He also said the owner bought a Spyder and the design was inspired by him.

Front Saddle $289
Rear Saddle $209
(1) Backrest $229

The backrest interchangeable (front to rear). This option leaves room for any mods coming to provide an actual "rack" on the rear of the Spyder.

Russell Day Long
S-3 Dual Leather $700
S-3 Backrest $115
(Approx-they had no pics of Spyder seats), but would leave rear plate open to mods
10 to 15 day delivery

BRP
Rack Plate $400
Backrest $250
Can we even get these?

Doesn't Russell require you to send them your seat / seat pan?
