Corbin: $2000 for defected saddlebags- Not Fair treatment

God bless you !

If I only knew sooner. I ordered my F3 Corbin Fleet liner bags in November of 2015 they just arrived yesterday 27 February 2016. I am a new member and didn't start seeing the bad press for Corbin until the beginning February after my bags were already ordered. I thought I should just try to cancel my order but I was too far out. I saw some members here had no problems with their bags so maybe I had a chance. When the bags arrived they have the same problems as the others have mentioned (left side the worse). I have to push down and to the right to get the bag to close. It is still not secure because I can open it with a slight upward motion of the little finger. The right bag is better but still has fitment issues and it was at least clean on the inside. The left not so. I wouldn't normally even comment on something like that I'd just clean it up and keep moving but it just goes to show the lack of pride in workmanship here.

Believe me every Spyder owner I know will be told. I don't mean if the topic of bags come up I mean as a public service announcement. So if
another F3 owner comes up to you and gives you a warm greeting then goes in to "if you are ever in the market for saddle bags I know which ones not to get", It's probably me. I'm turning "Each one teach one" to "Each one tell one". I want to be the last one they sell bags to.

Thank you for dedicating yourself to telling anyone and everyone about your experience. I applaud your way of handling this bad situation. Keep talking.

Update

I use a 1/4 inch washer under the hinge (1/16" thick) and it worked pretty well.
The door closes and latches. It doesn't rub but it also has big differences in gaps. I'll play around with it and see if I can adjust a little more.
I still have to test for leakage. I'm pretty sure they won't leak.

Regarding some of the posts above:

People post bad experiences on forums to; a) Vent their frustrations, b) Look for help in fixing the issue, and c) Inform possible future customers of potentially bad products or services. There is absolutely nothing wrong with posting like this. Unless it gets vulgar.

The quality of my Corbin seat is exceptional. I fully expected the bags to be made with the same attention to detail and care. Obviously their engineers for their fiberglass division are not the same as for the seats.

Lamont's bags are the first set of bags for the F3. Corbin changed the design (and the molds) to account for the BRP passenger seat backrest. That backrest will not work on Lamont's F3 (assuming he still has the original bags). It does on mine. Unfortunately it appears that the re-design wasn't held to the same standards as the original design.

I agree that $2000 is WAY too much to pay for saddlebags. Especially ones that can't hold a helmet. BUT... No one else has bags specifically for the F3 that look like they belong on the bike. The BRP ones are worse than garbage. Most other people who have bags had to "make" them work and while they look OK, they don't (in my opinion) look like they belong.

Nuff said

Happy Ryding everyone!

It's my personal opinion that anyone paying the price of admission to buy any product has a right to voice their displeasure any way they want,, especially when they've exercised patience in waiting for a substandard product and the subsequent bad treatment by a non existent customer service.. I love my bags on my F3 and doubt I could keep a straight face,, parked next to a guy that paid $2000 for a set of luggage that looks like they were made on an episode of Toddlers Run Wild in shop class... As for the Corbin luggage looking like they belong,,well the design is beautiful,, however the execution sucks and from what I've seen they look like they BELONG in the trash... I've had plenty of experience w Corbin and they've sucked for a loooooong time.. I'm with the OP and many others on this..

Ron, FWIW, if you can wedge the low corner or end and weight the opposite end, then let it sit in the sun for a while. Even better is to cover it in a black towel to bring the temp up.

I know it sounds hack, but there are a lot of composite parts tweeked to fit this way provided they are not oven cured in the beginning and I doubt those covers are.

Corbin Fleetliner Saddlebags for Can Am Spyder F3

I can't believe I find this AFTER i bought my saddlebags.

Got them last week, same issues.....especially the left saddlebag. Didn't close right, just like your picture shows.

I "shimmed" the hook on the lock. (added a piece of aluminum, filed to fit on the hook and JB-welded it to the hook, that gave me an additional 1/4 inch. After it dried i filed it to fit to match the shape of the hook. No big job but it is annoying that we spend THAT MUCH money for saddlebags which seem to jump over Quality Control and leaving the factory without even being tested.

Sadly this problem seems to not be a concern for Corbin being 4 Years between your post and mine.

Shame shame shame, Corbin.

Corbin,
I'm talking about F3- saddlebags that cost $2000, and very very long wait..
My question to Corbin, why you still sending the defected Left Side bags to customers who trusted you with their money and VERY long waiting time.
Why you don't put orders on HOLD till you fix it ??
corbin knew that the left side of the saddlebag was defected, even though shipped to us:
1- lid does not close properly, and early opened with speed
2- gap between lid and bottom is great that you can push your small finger in and open it while it is locked
3- when we ordered saddlebags through dealers:
A- I did not know that the owner of MY bags is the dealer
B- warranty with dealer's name
C- if dealer in not convinced that bags are defected, you are on your own
D- Corbin will not even talk to you, because you are not the OWNER of the bags
4- I was lucky that a Corbin employee,I was almost begging for help and support, he agreed for me to send pics of defected side
5- tried to explain to me how to fix it ( still paint is peeling, rubber is not closing well, etc.
6- I mentioned that while riding lid opened even when locked with key
7- he agreed to help me, and sent a FedEx to pick it up from my house ( thankful for that)
8- as promised 4 weeks, ended with 7-8 weeks with New one.
9- Corbin tried to fix the bag, didn't work and had to make a new one, then paint it.
10- during these 7-8 weeks, any time I call, the answer from all Corbin employees " please, don't call, your dealer to call as owners of saddlebags"" can you imagine how I felt ??? It was exhausting process.
My question to Corbin, why you still sending the defected Left Side bags to customers who trusted you with their money and waiting time. Again, Corbin: Why you don't put orders on HOLD till you fix it????
To you ALL, please, if you received a defected saddlebags, post pictures, so others will be aware of what they will receive.

Could it possibly be that they are not aware of any saddlebags that have 'defected' from their factory? How would they do that anyway? And why; were they being mistreated and thought their quality of life might be better elsewhere?

Very confusing and disturbing

RE: Corbin seats: I have had two Corbin seats with gas doors for my 08 and 10 Spyders. They were just fine...but Corbin hard. I learned to like them as supportive, and put over 50,000 Spyder miles on those seats.

Other Corbin accessories...in 08 and 09, we Corbinized our GS and RS into RT's...before they were even invented. They were the go to place.

I had fairing and a top trunk. My dealer bought the Corbin bags, and put them on his 08 GS. They looked fantastic. My balk was the $2,000 price tag for the bags back then...a LOT of money, IMO. I ended up going for the GIVI bags which were also offered at the time. Not as much room, or not as good looking, but $1,000 instead of double for the Corbins.

I had the dealer order the seats, and they came within a month or so. I ordered the fairings and top trunks direct. It took over two months to get them, but it was winter anyway. They did not arrive perfect, but I lived with them. Install was a bear for me. Have not used any Corbin accessories now since 2011. Am happy with the current stuff on the RT's and the F3's.

Never had to play the game with Corbin over quality...but would probably not buy anything further based on the consistent complaints from many who have made purchases from the company.

I was going to Corbinize my Vulcan 900 with fairings and bags...but backed off of that project also.

Corbin customer service does not discriminate. They just don't help everyone! It is non existent. :yikes: Tom :spyder:

I must be the odd person out here. I had four Corbin seats on past bikes. The last one was a Gunfighter seat on a Yamaha FZ09. I had it custom sized, along with a carbon fiber look leather seating surface. After about five weeks, the seat started to peel a filmy kind of material. I sent photo's to Corbin and they said send it back. I ordered it thru a dealership I worked at prior. I had the seat back in about 15 days, shipped to Cali from WI. Corbin even reimbursed me the shipping cost due to defective materials.

Back around the time this post first went up, a friend had similar issues with a Slingshot saddlebag set. In the end, he disputed it on his credit card, and could have received his money back had he returned them. At that point he was so far in on installation and trying to fix them that he kept the bags, but it was an option.
