Corbin: $2000 for defected saddlebags- Not Fair treatment

It would be nice if they could at least point to a reason for this, and then let everybody know what steps are being taken to correct it...

High price and long wait aside, they could be great if Corbin even cared. The bags are very spacious and stylish and fit well other than the mounting holes needing to be opened up. The insides are finished nicely and the paint was acceptable on mine.
If they don't latch and leak they are basically useless no matter what they look like. Nice carpet job on the inside too, until you have 1/4" water, then you are wishing for bare plastic and a drain hole.
When checking on the status of my order and had they fixed the left side, one Corbin employee told me he heard one guy had got around the left side problem by putting a shim under the front hinge to let the back latch come down and that I could buy weather stripping at Home Depot because they would still leak probably.
I almost fell out of my chair hearing this from a Corbin employee.
Google Corbin reviews and you will see many unhappy customers relating to there seats and customer service and false delivery dates.

A potentially GREAT product: ruined by poor execution, and an even poorer attitude by the responsible Company...

I have been one that has backed up the company because of MY prior experiences. The information is now seven years old.

Now...:bbq::bbq::bbq::bbq:

Because... It's not looking good based on what has been posted. :(

Another Corbin Gotcha

If I only knew sooner. I ordered my F3 Corbin Fleet liner bags in November of 2015 they just arrived yesterday 27 February 2016. I am a new member and didn't start seeing the bad press for Corbin until the beginning February after my bags were already ordered. I thought I should just try to cancel my order but I was too far out. I saw some members here had no problems with their bags so maybe I had a chance. When the bags arrived they have the same problems as the others have mentioned (left side the worse). I have to push down and to the right to get the bag to close. It is still not secure because I can open it with a slight upward motion of the little finger. The right bag is better but still has fitment issues and it was at least clean on the inside. The left not so. I wouldn't normally even comment on something like that I'd just clean it up and keep moving but it just goes to show the lack of pride in workmanship here.

Believe me every Spyder owner I know will be told. I don't mean if the topic of bags come up I mean as a public service announcement. So if
another F3 owner comes up to you and gives you a warm greeting then goes in to "if you are ever in the market for saddle bags I know which ones not to get", It's probably me. I'm turning "Each one teach one" to "Each one tell one". I want to be the last one they sell bags to.

TO MACE -RE: CORBIN BAGS

.Do not pay for them - or DEMAND your money back...you probably didn't pay cash.....Tell your CC people to cancel payment if Corbin gives you a hard time about it....Visa has gone to bat for me a number of times, after 30 years they like my business..............just sayin.......Mike :lecturef_smilie:

This is a very good idea... Get the credit card company in the middle of the mess, and Corbin will soon notice that they're not getting paid for this kind of workmanship. :2thumbs:

I think its time for Corbin and their duly appointed spokesperson(s) to step up to the plate and explain what is going on.

Time for a fix for those who are not happy. Not the type of quality I would be expecting for a $2 grand item.

Refunds for those who want them.

When one of the windshield companies had similar issues many years back, they quickly disappeared from the vendor board. Maybe its getting to be that time in this situation.

Wife loved them wanted a pair for her spyder. I told her they were crap and they are. Mine are just like yours.

AARGH! I was so hoping it was just mine...

I really wished I had read this thread in February.
I ordered bags and a seat for my F3-S during Bike Week in Daytona. The seat is very nice and fits near perfectly.
The bags on the other hand #&@*(@#&@#%*(!!!!!
The right bag's top mounting holes were off by 1/2 inch! I filed them out and everything fits fine.
The left bag is friggen worthless! The lid will not stand open, the latch pops open when a squirrel farts 50 feet away.
I called Corbin and they state that it's the latch plate and are sending me a new one. "We've seen this before"
However, the door is not installed right. The gap up front is too small which puts the lid off balance and does not line up the latch and plate properly.
The gap on the right bag is large enough for my index finger.
I'll play nice and give them the opportunity to fix the issue to my satisfaction. For now. But if they string it out or refuse to back their product, I will be having conversations with my CC company and the BBB in Florida and the state their manufacturing plant is in. (Arizona?)

Steady on - try California.

From a snippet gleaned from another post I think the problem is a simple one of misalignment. It would seem that the left side hinge needs a spacer under it - someone said it sits too close to the case bottom at the front - so that the rest of the lid sits on correctly.

It's possible the problem is not as bad as people think.

If someone wants to sell their heap of junk Corbin F3 bags to me I will pay. I have dealt with their misaligned lids before.

If you do dispute the charge, be prepared to have the bags ready to send right back. That is what happened when a friend disputed his charge. He already had holes in his vehicle and didn't want to give them up, so he paid to have them re-built (and this was the second set of bags meant to replace the broken ones). In the end, he spent something close to $1000 to make them fit, and credit card disputes don't have any room for "compromise" to do things like cover those costs in the way they work.

Having spent hours on the phone with my friend because of the frustration throughout this process (I've provided a greatly truncated version here - this experience was as difficult as the OP's experience), I'd like to save others from the same fate.

Chances are good you can get the defective set refunded, but that is the result to be prepared for. Beware that there are time deadlines on filing disputes, so call your cc company and see what your options are.

why is Corbin still allowed to be a sponsor here???

Because they pay money.

However it really does not look like the bags issue is as bad as people are saying. I'm prepared to refund an unhappy customer who has a set to match a white 2015 F3 with orange frame.

Corbin should not send them out like that but there is no real consumer protection in the US so there!

troubleshooting...

I fabricated a nylon insert to add some space under the hinge. 1/4". Totally messed up the dynamics of the lid. It wouldn't even close.
Next I fabricated an aluminum one 1/8" thick and I could close the door, but it rubbed on the inside edge.
I don't think the answer is elevating the hinge. I'll try a washer at 1/16" to test, but my hopes aren't high.
I do believe it's a design flaw. It never should have made it to production.
They are sending me a new strike plate. I'll post when I test that.
sigh*

Corbin has sucked for years!! Their product quality consistency has been all over the map and again,,,, FOR YEARS!!! Customer service is a JOKE.. Frankly I'm surprised they are still in business with all the bad stuff about them on the Internet.. Their business model is solely based upon OVER CHARGING for a maybe!! Maybe it'll fit maybe it won't... Maybe the painting and surfacing will be good maybe not.. One thing I'm sure of and that is:: If there is a decent set of this luggage on a F3,,, they are on Lamont's bike.. There maybe a few other decent ones but I highly doubt it.. Did I just say maybe again??? Those bags ain't worth $2000 if they were nice n problem free.. Maybe the marketing guy at Corbin is smoking crack cocaine... Corbin is giving away a free set of these bags that don't fit,, n look like a kid built them to the lucky winner who can guess how many times I said MAYBE in this post.. 😎

This post has been up for a while, I am really surprised that people are sending their hard earn money to Corbin...
If I had money to throw away like that, I would at least donate it to a worthy cause... Like a new saltwater Bay boat!!!!!!
I do hope the op and the rest of the people who bought them get the money back or a corrected set of bags.... Good luck
