• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Continuing DESS Issue?

yes I did get the D.E.S.S. again after the closing at the 6 flags. it took about 20 minutes to get it started and when it did I put it right in the trailer. I trailered it because I didn`t want to get stranded on the way there or back.
My dealer said the have to check it out and try to duplicate it before they can put in a claim and they never heard of the problem so I`m kinda weary about that. they can`t take it in till oct.1 so I think I`ll look around in the mean time................ I was wondering if the D.E.S.S. warning came up on the screen will that show up on BUDS?

I was in law enforcement, and had the opportunity to talk to Forensic computer specialists …. these are the people who go into the computers memory banks and retrieve what is believed to have been Intentionally deleted / erased...… according to them - nothing that registers on the memory board dis-appears …. so if the dealer says the code etc. is not there, they are wrong …. it's there but they can't find it or don't want to …. it's that simple ….. good luck ….. Mike :ohyea:

When I had DESS disabled we looked through the rest of BUDS. My bike had 0 codes stored. So if there is a record of a DESS failure, it's not stored where BUDS can see it.

:ohyea: …. This is from actual experience ….. my 2011 RSS had shifting issues for almost 2 yrs. - shifted fine but would sometimes flash a CODE warning …. Dealer claimed nothing showed on BUDS :dontknow:... couldn't find Anything …… I was at SpyderFest in May of 2014 … I had a BRP Tech " Danny " see if He could find out Why this was occurring …. Well He found 240+ codes in the computer memory bank … He didn't have the parts necessary to fix the issue, but told me to have that Dealer's tech contact Him Personally …. I did and the part was provided under expired warranty...… you can draw your own conclusions from this ….. I have ….. good luck …. Mike :ohyea:

In BUDS, on the Faults tab, the default display only shows active codes. You can tell it to show all stored codes.
Yes, the DESS codes show up there too. If the error came on screen, the code was stored. If your dealer says otherwise, they need to get with BRP on how to use BUDS. Training is available.

And this is Gospel :clap::clap::clap::clap: …………….. Thanks JC - I hope this puts the " well we can't find it, so it's not occurring theory " to bed :roflblack: ……………. Mike :ohyea:

Does the DESS warning appear if the battery is about to tank? Or if it's appearing now it has nothing to do with the battery?

Yep. jcthorne found my past DESS issues and the code where my turn signals went into hyper flash when I switched to LED. Codes are there, just have to know what rock to turn over to find them.

No definitive answer. If the battery is going bad, all sorts of electrical gremlins sneak out of hiding. Replace the battery first then diagnose anything else.

I had my DESS disabled on my 2014 RT. My local dealer had parts ordered to replace the module and antenna. Almost 3 weeks and no parts yet.
I missed too much riding..loaded bike up went to Nixa,Mo. Everything I wanted done was completed in 3 hours and to perfection. They had to clean up some of the wiring that was added for some extra lights I had my dealer install.
The trip was worth every gallon of gas. Great service !!!

Thanks

Roger

Thanks

New to me DESS fail

So the DESS has failed on my 2014 RTs SE6.:cus: I've ordered the latest DESS module but NOT the antenna. So Mike and Deanne----- is the the module itself or both the module and the antenna????

I attached the DESS Bulletin.

Refer to TST ROADSTER 2nd Generation D.E.S.S. Principal Of Operation (2014 and Up) to fully understand the principle of operation of the latest D.E.S.S. generation. With first D.E.S.S. module production, when the D.E.S.S. module was sending his signal to the antenna to read the key chip, the radio frequency produced by the antenna was too strong and the key chip was saturated. This saturation changed the data transmitted back to the D.E.S.S. module causing a bad reading of the key chip. A ferrite has been added in new 710004916 module to reduce RFI/EMI signals.

On the vast majority of 2014 experiencing this DESS issue, BOTH needed to be replaced even when using the UPDATED DESS module.
Replacing the DESS alone did work for some, but not for most.

HI Lew,

Originally on July 14th 2015 the dealership replaced the D.E.S.S module,( resolution Replaced Dess module. TST 2014-015).Part # 710004190.

2nd Time the D.E.S.S module/and the Switch was replaced on : Aug. 28th, 2015 ( Replaced switch and dess module) part # 71004190/ switch # 710004413.

**** Problem: Intermittently the ignition key may not be recognized causing the unit not to start. The D.E.S.S ERROR message will be displayed in the cluster.
Solution : Replace the D.E.S.S moudle. Program the keys using the B.U.D.S . Referring to the 2014 RT Shop manual section Digitally Encoded Security System D.E.S.S.

Technical Explanation: When the D.E.S.S module sends its signal to the antenna to read the key chip, the radio frequency produced by the antenna is too strong and the key is saturated . This saturation changed the data transmitted back to the D.E.S.S. module causing a bad lecture of the key chip.

I also have posted this info in my thread" KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on 8/2015 it is a very long thread 35 pages long. All of the info is on that thread.

Thanks Deanne, I've read your threads and others. I'll be replacing ( and moving) the module soon.

Do you think that a shield of some kind on the key would help?????

HI Lew,

I don't think a shield would help on the key.
