Considering ST purchase

My wife and I are considering a new ST Limited, mainly for her. (Though I have a feeling I will enjoy it also.) My question concerns price. Is there bargaining at most dealers or are they going for MSRP? I've never been the best negotiator but since I only buy a new vehicle, car or bike, once a decade, I don't get much practice. I'm in Phoenix AZ if that helps. I know it can vary by location. Any input appreciated.

:welcome: I would imagine that most dealers will stay pretty close to MSRP; it's the top-line version of a brand-new model.
But I rode one, and your Wife (And you!) will LOVE it! :2thumbs:

Compare it to the entry level RT (which may actually cost less). It would be more comfortable, if you are big/tall.

Many of us initially purchased a RS, but could never get comfortable on it…. and traded for a RT. The ST is STILL a "sport bike".

Thanks for the feedback. We sat on both the ST and RT in the showroom and they feel the same to me. The RS is too sporty ergos for us. We just don't need that much baggage space (RT) and really don't even care about the audio and GPS. Just the comfortable ergos. what the heck, its only money. Thanks.

Instead of trying to negotiate the purchase price. See what else you can negotiate. Some dealers will throw in an accessorie credit, MSF riders course, free 600 mile service or a combo of the prior.

Vehicle negotiation = old western duel in a dirt covered street with a tumbleweed being blown in between both parties. Fun!

Good luck in your shopping!

You are probably going to run into tight negotiations on a new ST. This is the "newest" thing from BRP and I don't think they are going to be dealing until the 2014's come out.

I like the idea of perhaps negotiating for "other" things, like extended warranty discount, service discounts, accessories, etc. These are all items with high markup, and the dealer has some room to work with you there.

Another possibility, is to look at 2012's or 2011's. Some dealers have these brand new, and you can save money there, if you don't need newest and best. I purchased a brand new 2011 RT A&C last summer and saved a lot of bucks in the process. No regrets here.

Let us know what you decide. As Bob said: the fun is in thw shopping.

RideNow has that market cornered, pretty much. Phoenix and Tucson so they don't offer much discount and may be even more hardnosed, especially on a new st.

Too new..!!

Agree with the above. they are still limited and will sell at full price no problem. 2012 have more room to play and they want to move old stock. I bought mind towards the end of the summer and got a good price. Good luck:thumbup:

If you pick up a 2012 Base RT Manual shift ,Like mine below, No Radio you can probably get it cheaper than any ST and its ONLY 70 Pounds heavier at 930 vs 860 for the ST and have the Extra storage which you may use someday?:dontknow:

Baggage, GPS, and audio aside........

If your going to ride 2-up alot, get the RT. nojokeSure the ST is good for the driver, but it will be no good for a passenger. Go back and sit on both 2-up, the passenger will understand what I'm saying.

Thanks for all the input. The wife is going to take her BRC course next weekend on a goldwing trike. So if she can get the shifting thing down and likes it, that will open up the possibility of the manual as well as the electronic shift, more to choose from. I considered an earlier year model also but reading these forums, it seems each year has had improvements in different areas such as computer system, suspension, etc. Will see what they have available. She doesn't like the looks of the RT but I'll see what she thinks after her training and a little more research. I don't expect a lot of two up riding, that is the primary reason to get her on her own. Then I can sell my aging Wing, get a sport tour bike, or maybe a second Spyder. If that happens, we'll have more invested in m/c than we have in two old cars, by far.

You are right. Ridenow is about all there is for Spyder. I've managed to avoid them for the last few decades with my other bikes but now I'll have to deal with them.

Have to agree with Randy............especially if you are going to do any touring on the :spyder:. The comfort of the RT and the storage will come in handy on trips. Whatever you decide, you're going to love it!:2thumbs:

I agree with the above 100%. If as you said feel no difference between the two why not go for the basic RT with the option for later on getting the radio and commo gear and you will definitely find a use for the extra storage space! We all did! You will also have a better chance at getting a stronger discount for the RT.

You can try Desert Dog off-road in Fountain Hills, or as I did when I bought my GS, go to Havasu Powersports in Lake Havasu.
