Considering 2014 used RT Limited - please help

Hello everyone,
This is my first time here. We are in the market for a spyder, and we saw a used one, 2014 RT limited cognac with 6000 miles on it and really liked it. Looks like it's in great shape visually. The owner is asking 195000 for it. But they said they bought the bike used from a college kid. That kind of threw us off...
My question is mostly to the owners of 2014 RT Limited. How are your Spyders holding up so far, how tough are they, etc.? Is it a good price? Also, if you have any other input, please, speak up. We REALLY need your advice! We wanted to go new, but there are no new bikes in cognac...
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

That's a nice looking Spyder.

To partly answer your question, I have a 2015 RT which I've had for going on 14 months and have ridden 21,550 miles with no issues. The only thing that people say about the 2014 is that the tires don't last long, but if that's the only problem you have, tires can be replaced. There are also some 2014 that have had some DESS issues. There are lots of posts here about those.

All in all, I would go for it if I were you. As far as a fair price, I'll let the others comment on that.

P.S. I lived in Portland when I went to law school. Going back in August to visit old friends. I loved Portland and would have stayed except for the copious amounts of rainy days.

Love my 14 RT , it has been like a rock, I am about 20k miles in, and except for fairly high maintenance costs,
NOT great mileage, and dismal original tires, it has been brilliant. Powerful, quiet, stable, great brakes, amenities.
If it didn't have such a goofy "boot up" wait when starting, it would be ideal.

price... I think the one you mentioned didn't sound all that unreasonable. Is the rubber fresh ? I sure wouldn't
shop one based on color, but hey different strokes. I saw a 2010 w/ 658 miles for 15k. But then you are talking about the twin
and I wouldn't go there.

2014 RT Limited

While I can't say that the price is good or bad because I purchased a new 2015. I would suggest that you check several sources in your area to determine if the price is good. I believe 6000 miles is the break in period and you should last for thousands of miles as long as you keep up the maintenance.

There is NO Spyder in the world .....Not even one owned by spyderCodes :roflblack:.....that would be worth 195,000 ................   :lecturef_smilie:..............................................JMHO.........Mike

Our 2014 rtse6 is fantastic
Smooth when you want smooth
Growl when you want growl

All stock no problem for us
Good design good lines

Many people upgradeaspects of bike & i may someday but its great out of the box
Buy it & enjoy it!
But first take it to a shop & have em do a vin rundown etc for you

I love R&R put another dime in the jukebox baby!

I would recommend doing some serious research on that particular :spyder2:. Bought it from a college kid just don't seem right. Don't see many of them with $30K to spend on toys.

Have a dealer run the VIN and you can get the actual mechanical history.

Was going to tag you for going for the $195K price, but Mike beat me to it. 19.5K seems in the ballpark.

I have a 2014 RT-S and so far have 23K trouble free miles on it. If you get a good one, you will like it a lot.

Let us know what you do.

Second Thoughts????

U always want to take a used vehicle to a reputable dealer to have it checked out. Tell the service dept. To pull the information out of the computer to see if it has been abused. I believe they can tell from the computer readout. If it's in your opinion ok, go to the library and use the motorcycle blue book to determine if price is within your range. If both are acceptable-- GO FOR IT!! Welcome to Spyderville:spyder2::riding:

Personally, call me suspicious.

But I find it AMAZING that you happened to join this forum on the exact time and date as another user tim1 who happens to be selling his Spyder.

More like TROLLING.

Both from Oregon , both have exactly 2 posts.

Sorry but the LEO in me says something is fishy here.

BUSTED!!!!!

Guess I missed something. The seller has a 08 GS and the buyer is looking at a 14 RTl.

2014 Spyder Limited

I bought a 2014 cognac RTL last August from a dealer with 350 miles for $23,500. It had Lamonster pegs, ultimate seat, cup holder, half cover, led lights added, hard side luggage drunk & saddlebags and 1 year extended warranty the original owner installed. Mine now has 10,000 trouble free miles and I had to replace rear tire at 7,200 miles. The bike has been excellent to date and I think quality is as good as a gold wing which I have also owned. I would have the dealer check it out and have it laser aligned and ride it. I think you should buy it if you want a Spyder.

I'm not sure what a LEO is supposed to mean but struggle to see any trolling here either.

Love my 14 RTL

Just flipped over 18000 miles. Completed 3063 of miles this past week. 6000 miles is not bad for a 2014 model. I'm not sure about the price, but don't think its out of line.

My 14 RTL has been trouble free. Fixing to do something about the brake squeal, but love it.
