connecting battery tender

OK so I decided to connect the pigtail under the seat for my battery tender. Ive read all kinds of horror stories about the negative terminal something or other. I connected the positive side with no problems. started trying to loosen the negative terminal and it just turns and turns. Is there a nut on the back of that terminal? Looks to me like it's an extension of the negative terminal since the battery is supposed to be located on the left side there's no way this can be the actual terminal unless this is a long battery. can I connect this pigtail under the seat to the exposed terminals or must I remove the tupperware and put it directly to thew battery?

I guess you didn't pay much attention to the horror stories. Never, never, never try to loosen the negative jumper terminal under the seat. It is also the main frame ground at the rear, and being loose can lead to a host of problems. It will need to be tightened before you do anything else. That's gonna make you cuss. The tupperware will have to be removed, and you will probably have to cut, bend, or buy a wrench to get to the nut on the back side.

After you get it tightened securely, remove the tupperware on the other side and connect your charging pigtail directly to the battery.

ok I'm trying to remove the left side panels I have all the torx screws out and the only thing left holding seems yo be two black plastic grommets under the seat. Do these just pop out with a screw driver or what is the best way to remove them. the manual doesnt say and I don't want to break something.

yes, pry up the center pin and the entire plug/pin comes out. flat head screwdriver works fine.

Thanks, worked like a charm I was spared a fate worse than death, I was able to tighten that negative terminal back up under the seat without having to totally disassemble the spyder. The batter tender pigtail is now properly attached to the battery and is doing it's job as we speak. And i have learned how to take off some of the tupperware. Those little plastic rivets don't seem very sturdy, please tell me there is a place to get more. I would imagine they would be good for about 2 removals then they will fall apart. seems like the could have made all the panels with those neat little quick release clamps like the ones on the service access panel where you check the oil. Hmmmm....

You can purchase the rivets at NAPA auto parts. part # 665-2389

The plastic rivets are very sturdy if you don't get ham-fisted with removal. You are more likely to lose one than damage it.

Just an fyi to remove the plastic pins you should push the center pin in and the outside will release without any damage,these type of plastic push pins are used on my lincoln wiper cowel and the removal sugests that you should always push the center pin down to release the pin without damage.

The Spyder rivets are not the push to release kind. They do have slots to get a tool in to raise the center button.
