Confirmed USA 2013 RT-S MELTING

I can't really answer your question. All I can say is that I have almost 14,000 miles on my 2013 RT-S. I took it in soley for the purpose of having my 14,000 oil change and maintenance, the "recall fix", some other "diddys" and found that the Master Cylinder was melting and needed a new one. I had no idea, and would think that this condition did not occur just when I was taking it to the dealership. Hope this helps.

Chris

I agree. I had my Spyder in for a melted parking brake cable about a month before the fire and BRP specifically had my tech check and photograph the master cylinder and it was not melted. In the next 4,000 miles either the master cylinder melted or the evap canister melted. And we all know the result of that.

Melted Wiring Harness

Talked to my service dept today, Pro Caliber, Longview, WA, all the RECALL work was completed on :spyder:. They also wrapped the exhaust pipe for me. Pick up tomorrow and see how the "HEAT" issue was taken care of...:dontknow:

Thanks Shawn for your great work on this issue...

BRP told Shawn to just repair the wiring harness, WHICH HE DID :2thumbs:

Tech found this harness melted...:banghead:

Got my spyder (2013 RT-S) back today from the dealer. 14,000 mile oil change and service maintenance (oil, filters, 2 plugs, change in coolant/distilled water ratio, retorqued motor mounts because of handle bar shake or vibration at start, AND brake master cylinder due to "melt down", bled brake system after MC replaced and added brake fluid, replaced vapor canister, performed recall "kit installation" at NO COST either because of warranty, recall campaign and prepaid maintenance contract at purchase of spyder.:yes::yes:

What is that harness on?

The Wiring Harness is for the brake and sensor. On my 2013 RT-S SE5 it was under the frame and exposed to the exhaust which melted the master cylinder.
Shawn, tech, checked BUDS and no codes even thought the wires were exposed. BRP told him it would be to difficult to replace the entire harness and to just repair it. He repaired the wiring and insulated it then routed it on top of the frame away from the exhaust. You can see the WRAP on the exhaust & the upper center CANISTER wrapping.

I don't know if the wiring harness is the same on the 2013 as it is/was on the 2010, but if we are talking about the wiring harness that extends the whole length of the bike, then I'm skeptical as to what HE said that BRP said. I had an issue with my wiring harness on my 2010 and it was replaced under warranty. Perhaps because no codes were thrown repairing rather than replacing was recommended.

I had that melt on mine also.

Finally got around to pulling off the Tupperware and looking . . . sure enough, my master cylinder is melting . . . I have an appointment on the 17th . . . question is, should I ride it there (an hour's trip), or tell them to tow it?

I guess I'll leave it up to the dealer. I'll call them and ask what to do, tow or ride.

The tech was on the phone with BRP while I was standing there. They said to replace the entire wiring harness would entail a complete tear down to gain access. It would be an easier repair that small section of melted wire.
40 minutes later the :spyder2: was flying north bound on I-5....

:agree: The wiring harness replacement is a pretty big deal... If they can, "cut and patch" a section to repair it;
