• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi all:
I'll try not to make this a novel but last July we decided that it was time to go to 3 wheels.
After a lot of investigation and reading on Spyderlovers, we bought a 2011 RTS SE5 with 18,00 miles on it privately for a really good price.
I did the usual upgrades like the baja ron sway bar and got the spyder to handle the way I liked it.
In November we trailered it to Florida bacause we spend the winters there. At 25,000 miles the clutch started slipping quite badly. I was shocked because from the time I bought it, I always had it in trailer mode to avoid lugging it. Regardles, after the clutch was replaced, every morning when I started it cold and put it in forward or reverse, there was a nastly growling that sounded and felt like the engine was going to fall out. Took it back to dealer twice and they said it wasn't clutch related. We were scared to ride very far because a major problem was evident.
We got home on April 11 and the next day I traded in the Spyder on a 2007 Goldwing because we've had Goldwings. As much as we like the wing, we really missed the secure feeling of 3 wheels. So that brings us to now. We bought a 2014 RT Limited with 15,000 miles that still has BEST warranty until April 30, 2019. Love the driveabiltiy of the new engine/transmission. The 2011 always felt so busy to me because of the high rev range. Downside is that I now had a Goldwing to sell.
I've attached a BRP bulletin that I stumbled across after trading in the 2011 Spyder. It's obvious that what I thought was a problem after getting the new clutch is normal. Too bad the dealer in Florida didn't see the bulletin.

Saw both your posts but as unfortunate as it has been you are now on a better beast...:roflblack: the new hydraulic clutch and six speed fixed all that. The lower rpm's helps those that did not like the high rpm twin. You must be enjoying the new Ryde much better...:clap:
 
All of my Spyders have done this: the 2018 even more so than the others.
Once the oil starts warming up: they're good to go! :thumbup:

That's interesting because my 2011 didn't do it before the clutch was replaced and my 2014 doesn't do it either.
 
WOW, what a tale.
Too bad you already bought the Spyder.
I would have recommended the new Hannigan reverse trike for the Gold Wing.

I consider this Hannigan kit to be every bit as attractive as the Spyder.

Here's the Sturgis, another attractive kit.

I picked up a brochure and price sheet on the Sturgis a couple months ago. The company is in Holland. Price here including installation, tax, and a couple "necessary" options is about 15K.

That's the point, right ?
If you own a wing and sell it, it will probably cost you around 10K to 15K to get into a Spyder.
Or keep your existing wing and convert it to a reverse trike for nearly the same money.
If you convert your existing wing, at least you have the Honda reliability, and except for some suspension components, Honda service.
I've said this many times before: I have absolutely no problem with BRP's product. I love my Spyder.
Their service network, especially for on-road vehicles, leaves much to be desired.

I agree about the service network for the Spyder. It's seriously lacking.
Prices here in canada are a bit higher than in the US.
I priced converting my 2007 goldwing to a conventional trike. Both Lehman and Motortrike would cost me close to $20,000.00 tax included by the time I added options.
I bought the 2014 Spyder Limited with 16,000 miles on it for $16,000 plus tax which was another $2,000.00.
I sold my Goldwing on Monday for $12,000.00 and they picked it up yesterday.
In my mind this was a less expensive way to go at this time but I don't get too attached to vehicles so if this Spyder gives me much trouble I'll get rid of it.
I've put 600 miles on it since picking it up 5 days ago and everything seems good.

I'm really liking the 2014 a lot. I really liked the 2011 as well but it always seems so busy with the high reving engine.
Anyway, all I wanna do is ride and not worry about parking lots etc with a 2 wheeler.
