Colorado-Texas Trip

Hey guys I will be taking my first mini cross country trip. From Colorado to Corpus Christi, Texas on June 2 and 3rd figured it would take me at least two days. Anything I should have to have to bring beside cell phone, Towing insurance and some really good luck.
I am also taking my garmin navigator and would love to download the Spyder dealers I remember somebody had done this but leave it to me to wait to the last minute to get it. So wish me luck Spyder only has 3000 miles on it and I've had it for the past 1-1/2 but had no major problems had all updates just took it out of shop for maintenance and check over before I depart on June 2nd. So again wish me luck and a prayer or two and I will make it to my daughter's house in time for her first recital she is organizing for her first dance school year. She acquired over 130 students. Later gang If you see a fat guy on a red spyder wave at him that'll be me lolhyea::spyder2:hyea:

DONT FORGET

Don't forget the sunscreen. The pan handle of Texas is super hot and no trees that time of year! Also if you come through Weatherford, TX (west of Ft.Worth) and need anything. I'm here!:2thumbs: BE SAFE and have fun, Proud of your daughter. Hard work pays off!

Coming from Colorado, you'll probably miss San Antonio, but if your plans take you near, PM me and I'll send you my phone number in case. No trailer, but I have the good folks at South Texas Suzuki on speed dial!

I echo what the others have said about the Texas sun. Use sunscreen and cover if you can stand the heat. A good mesh jacket does well down here. Have a great ride!

Depending on the route you take - just be careful. I10 and even I40 get a lot of deer and even boars crossing at dusk and in the early AM.

I plan on taking US50 to US 550 over the "million dollar highway" thru Silverton and Durango and popping out near Farmington to Santa Rosa and taking side roads all the way to San Antonio, Tx and on to Corpus.
If ever you guys roll thru Grand Junction, Colorado let me know. Beautiful riding over here.

I agree - some of THE BEST riding around. The 4 Corners area (give or take 100 miles in any direction) has some of the most beautiful landscapes around.

I would suggest you invest in a Camelback (or some such) hydration bag. There are several models - Dick used one the other day when I rode with them out Texas way that hooked on the back of his travel bag and then strung the hose/mouthpiece forward. I put mine in the tank bag and just hook my hose through the handle so I can easily access it. On a hot day, I fill it with as much ice as I can, add water until full and it gives me cold water for hours. It keeps you hydrated which keeps you more focused and comfortable as you ride on a hot day. Even if you stop for gas every two hours and get a bottle of water, you need more water than that to stay hydrated. (I put mine inside a gallon ziplock bag to "insulate" it from other stuff in my tank bag as it will sweat and make the other stuff in their damp, otherwise.)

I lived in Corpus for 10 years and know the route from San Antonio to Corpus well. Corpus always has a lot of wind! Thats why sail boarding and kite boarding are very popular there. Enjoy your trip!!:2thumbs:

CO to Corpus

Made the trip from Tucson to Corpus a few weeks ago. Past El Paso at Van Horn, I took the Rte 90 (2-lane) through Marfa and Del Rio, then cut across 173 just before San Antonio to I-37. On the way back, I took I-37 to I-10 and home. Rte 90 is OK, but pretty sparsely populated and it can be a Looooong way between gas stops. I would strongly recommend carrying extra fuel; and don't pass any station without filling up. I-10 is really pretty nice, (and 80mph speed limits aren't bad either!) Some of the prettiest scenery is just west of SA. By the way, it's 180 miles between Van Horn and the next filling station ON I-10!) I took my 1150GS on that trip, (40mpg and 5.5 gal tank), but if I had been on the Spyder without my aux tank, I would have been walking several times.
