• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

cold weather riding

Yup. That's what I used to commute in. On 2 wheels, tho. Our Spyder also seems to like cold. Gerbings and seat heat were helpful.

yep I used to run my rockets in this too, as long as there was nothing on the road that was too sketchy.

Just want to get a better day which up here is about from 11 to 3 at best. One of the may downfalls of living in MN is the limited so you just got break the limits a little bit..

Cold Weather Riding

Well it has hit here in Maine also. 20 degrees tonight at 8:30 PM and colder by morning. Have seen a bit of snow so far but has not stuck around yet. The big ski areas are open with limited terrain now. Weather man says snow for the weekend. The Spyder looks a little lonley in the Garage but it is sitting beside the two Ski-Doo snomobiles I own so it is amoung friends. No DPS yet so I guess it will wait untill spring.

does your dealer suck? you should be able to get a dps before spring?

Hey Seth0... I hear you. The daylight is short here these days also, and the temps drop quite a bit in the evenings and on my early morning commutes. Been low as 26F here thus far. I have my larger wind screen on these days, the wind deflectors and heated grips. Also doubling up on the layers under my jacket. Can't ride without that gear.

Watch out for the shaded areas, as you know they tend to freeze easier then areas in the sun, careful for the black ice.

Cheers from Chilly Newfoundland.

well its begun up here, it was 19 degress with 25 mph gusts went to send my FN fiveseven pistol back because of a bad extractor before work, sun went down and it was cool.

Went to grab some stuff at the store and man it was cold wheeling into the place.

I will say the spyder never runs better than 30 degrees or less, pulls like crazy.

Let ER buck.

Sun Rise Ride

Went on an hour, 60 mile ride this morning to watch the sun come up. It was 28 degs but only my fingers got cold. This is my first year riding and I'm not wlling to give it up until there is snow on the roads. I will have to invest in some heated gloves though for longer rides.

Well I,m going out in a Bit and its 48 with wind chill of 40 and I thought I was Brave?:roflblack:I found Scottys recommendation of silk glove liners really works great!:2thumbs:

Did a 250 mile ride today - foggy, damp and 40 went I left but high 40's on return and was lovin' my heated gear which made the ride truly enjoyable. On low setting today so high will take me into the teens as long as roads are free of ice and snow.

We use handlebar muffs with our gloves, they work like a charm and are a lot cheaper than heated gloves. Check out the cold weather gear thread for photos.

I just have to. You guys are gonna kill me. It was 58 this morning early and a nice and sunny 75 degrees today. Brrrrrrrr. I almost had to wear my jeans riding. :yikes:

Chris PE # 0004 <ducking>

Butch put the muffs on the handlebars this week and is waiting to hear from a shop about an electric liner. Our daughter is using the spare truck so he's diving the Spyder to work. I am putting the Vespa away for the winter, that little Itanlian motor doesn't like to stay running when it's under 32, I'll get it back out in March though. Butch agrees with you about how great the Spyder runs in the cold temps.

It was a little brisk and my fingers did get a little cold but not enough for the cuffs.

I was driving east and it was a beautiful sunrise, well worth a little cold. :2thumbs:

Oh I know, its crazy how much the sun has to do with when you can ride while it is this cold out. just catching about 3 inches of snow tonight, if would be better if I did not work nights.

I did not remember reading this until you brought up, where did you get the silk liners at?

glad to see the cities riders are still kicking, do you two deer hunt at all? it was quite the season up here, I am really starting to believe the wolf problem is the reason the deer have been bunched up.

I get mine at the area BMW shop. Cabela's sells them, too. They are readily available mail order, via the Internet. They're pretty cheap...about $8-$12 a pair, as I recall.

I understand what everyone is talking about. I rode home last night at around 11:30, and the temperature was 65 degrees, It got cool enough, I actually wore a long sleeved t-shirt last night. :roflblack: Great sleeping weather with the windows in the house open also.
