• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dealer

Called the dealer and they said they have the crankshaft position sensor in stock, and that I should drive it the 120km distance at speeds of up to 100km/hr to the dealer ship and they will replace the faulty one, just hope nothing is wrong with the ECM. Does anyone see any problems with this.

The link Bob put up above covers it pretty well - except for there being NO response from the OP to tell everyone what the end result was!!

But with 'Limp Home' mode, it's not stopping you from Ryding like some of the other warnings will, it's just forcing you to ryde carefully; which implies that even the manufacturer reckons it's safe, within the parameters they've built in to Limp Mode!! ;)

Besides, what other choice do you really have? Trailer it the whole way?!

Your choice, either ride it with Limp Mode showing, or trailer it.... :sour:

roadside assistance

If thier was any danger of damage being done during that ride I'm covered for $200 on my roadside assistance, so that is an option, but if its safe to ride, I would rather do that.

My very in-expert guess : would be that if it runs at all: it'll be okay to run it to the dealership...
But since I have all of the mechanical aptitude of a hamster: ask this question to your dealership. nojoke

The codes in the Spyder conform to standard emissions related codes for most all vehicles. Based on what happened recently with my Nissan Maxima when it showed a P0340 code I'll say this. You can keep driving it. The ECM will operate using default, fail safe mode, cam position data. What that means is the engine won't perform at optimum parameters. Other things can contribute to getting a P0340 code, and a faulty CPS can lead to other faults and codes, so you don't want to put off getting it replaced any longer than necessary. You should be OK riding to the dealer, but have a contingency plan in mind if things do happen to go to crap on the way.

When in doubt...

does anyone know what code P0340 MEANS

i live 45 Kms from Snow City Cycle in Toronto ( I'm in Courtice) and I got lots of advice saying that I could " likely" drive my Spyder there with the oil pressure light on because it was " probably " just a faulty oil sender switch... well it was the switch but I got Moto Limo to trailer it to the dealership for my own peace of mind . A few Spyder people on here agreed that they would have done the same thing to be safe . Do you have CAA ? I would use it :thumbup:

That was idiotic advice in that case. Low or no oil pressure will lead to a destroyed engine. That's not a worry about a camshaft position sensor gone bad.

FYI

JUST GOT BACK FROM MY DRIVE TO THE DEALER AND REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR, ONLY THING EFFECTED WAS THE LACK OF PERFORMANCE GOING DOWN, OTHER THEN THAT NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER.

Thanks Doug!

Good to know you are all sorted & running well, & it's good to hear the final outcome on a thread like this! Great news! :2thumbs:
