• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Co-share Spyder experience?

Thank you all for your suggestions, mostly leaning towards Don't Do It ! We'll see...I have a $1000 BRP coupon burning a hole in my pocket!

GaryTheBadger,

First let me say, I haven't seen you post in awhile. So, it's nice to hear from you again. I'd say go for it.

Yea, I've been away, had to sell the RS a few years ago, it was killing my back, but three recent long test rides on F3's and no problems!
I still work on customer's Spyders in my spare time to get the occasional fix.

I think 2 used spyders would be a better deal. Alternate week ends sounds great, but what happens when this weekend is rain or this week end is a rally. I assume (???) you are not riding together at the same time. Maintance costs would have to half and half, regardles of who burned out the rear tire, or tore the clutch up. I have seen way too many "loaned bikes" have a problem and who pays for it ?
I am not sure about the "sharing a girl Friend" is right, but I would say it would be close.
Good luck with your choice

Don't do it.

Every other weekend will rain this summer & they will be your designated weekends. Sod's law!

Ooooo...!!

It would have to be a rock solid friendship. You both would have to have the ability to buy the other out or be able to agree to sell to recoop. The odds are against this working unless the plan is to get another in short order...the two used idea sounds better...

Nice to see . . . .

. . . you drop in again.

I am am glad to hear your back is good with the F3. I am tending to go with the don't do it advice, but agree, that is up to the kind of friendship you have.

My advice is to consider selling one of your other bikes. That is probably a painful thought, but just consider it as a kind of collateral on splitting the cost of getting/sharing a F3 in case you had to buy out your partner. If you think you would never want to do that, then, I would not do the share purchase.

My recollections of you are that you are a good guy, smart, and good at making things work. What ever you decide, I hope you get what makes you happy.

Tom

What happens if...

There is major work that "may" have been caused by one of you.

One of you uses it a lot, and other not much at all.

One of you seriously damages it (and it is out of commission, or there are cosmetic repairs you disagree on).

Your friendship falters.

One of you wants to sell it and the other doesn't have the cash for the buyout, so you both loose a lot of money (and a Spyder).

To me, this is a very bad idea. Save up or get together the money to buy your own, even it if isn't your first choice of Spyder.

Well if you can work it out that would be great!! Now me. No way. I tried to "share" our RT with my hubby. He wanted to drive it all the time and so did I. Neither of us wanted to ride as passenger. This lasted 6 months. Went back to the dealer and bought another bike.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Maliamd------ This is exactly what my wife is planning with our new F3S. We both have our own 2wheelers. The F3 will be our first
Spyder (but we have owned other trikes) but she thinks one of us will drive one way and one will drive back.:banghead:. So we will see
if it is even 6 mos. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: She hates riding behind me and I hate riding behind her.

We tried that too each driving one way. The problem for us was being a passenger. We both hated being passengers. The problem we encountered was that we are different drivers. So I brake at different times, I slow down at different times, and I ride at different speeds. This made for very nervous passenger riding. I was a nervous wreck after being a passenger. :yikes: I finally said either we get another bike or we sell this one. So off we went to the dealer and bought another bike. :ohyea:We are now happy campers and our marriage is saved.

UPDATE - Looks like I am on my own to get an F3. Let the negotiations begin!

Tom from NM:
One of the VStar 950's will be sold and should cover one-third of the F3 cost.
The other VStar is my wife's, so it's off-limits.
The 1972 Rover I'm going to be buried with.
Thank you for the kind words! :) Maybe we'll run into each other at Spyderfest on Sat at Vendor Village.

Do any of you have actual experience co-owning a Spyder? A good friend and I want to get a new F3, we can each afford half. People do this with planes, cars and boats, why not a Spyder? We'd draw up a contract that spells out responsibilities in advance. Thoughts?

To make this agreement with the best chance of success, I suggest you also write into it the divorce. There will be an end one way or another. When both parties know what that "end" is, the odds of making it work will be better. Had a number of partnerships, this worked the best. (not with a bike, but a boat was one of them)

UPDATE - No need to co-share, because I spent the day yesterday at two dealers, and BROUGHT HOME A NEW F3 SE6 !!
Got a white base model, with upgraded wheels, a windshield and laser-alignment. The ride home was 150 miles in perfect weather.
It was tempting to experiment, but not until after the break-in miles. NO back pain and NO hand pain! Thanks BRP!
