There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Clutch Slipping when temp gets to operating? Anyone else? Replace the clutch, or what?

I have a 2011 RT-S (SM5) with 29,000 miles. After the bike gets to operating temp, the clutch will slip. No matter what gear you are in, if you accelerate, (or try to) the RPM's will jump to 7,000 or higher, without gaining any vehicle speed. Anyone else had this problem? If so, did you have to replace the clutch? Thanks

I got a 2010 RT SM5 with just under 20k miles, I was having issues with it jumping with the clutch pulled in slipping under 2 up riding. I got a Baker clutch to replace it at the 20k mile service. When the cluch was replaced it has signs of ware but the bigger issues was that the clutch fluid had not been changed. I have put 1k miles on it since the service with no issue. Shifts eaiser better responce. It is a combination of the better cluch and the clutch fluid being clean. All of tat being said I would bleed/change the clutch fluid. There is a video of how to do it on youtube by one of the member here. That should take care of the issue if it does not I would change the clutch and go with the Baker clutch, it is about 200 bucks

Not much to go on....

Could be several things but from what you say it is time to change the clutch plates. If you have the wrong oil this will happen and if you have been out there like that the plates are damaged. Remember that the same oil that you put in the engine works the gear box, clutch and engine so it has to be to the specs in the manual. Being an SM5 it is strange as the semi-automatics tend to be more misused. As I see it you will have to go in there to see what has happened even if it is an oil related problem changing the oil alone will not fix it...jmo

Another clutch replacement

There is a guy that rides with our group regularly with a 2011 RT SM5 with 17,000 miles that just had his clutch replaced at the dealer for close to $1000...larryd

Note, he always rides single and never pulls a trailer...

Use the wrong oil and your 998 clutch will slip for sure.

If it is an oil related slippage. You can usually save the clutch if you catch it early and change to a compatible engine oil. The 998 clutch is very picky about oil. Oils that may work fine in the 1330 or most other wet clutch motorcycles will slip the clutch in a 998.

You're not stuck using BRP oil. But you need to do your homework if you want to use a superior lubricant in the 998 V-Twin.

What happens is someone will say; 'I use Oil X in my Spyder and it works great!'. Another will chime in and agree. But they are both riding a 1330 motor. A 998 rider will say. 'If it works good in their Spyder than it will certainly work good in mine!'. WRONG! Apples and oranges. Be careful to know WHICH Spyder they are talking about. The fact that Oil X works very well in 1 Spyder is not universally true in all Spyders.
