There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. What should be used to clean the windshield on the RTS ? I know car soap should be used to clean the vehicle, but is there anything that should be used to clean and protect the windshield besides car soap ?

I use Plexus on my entire bike and the windshield. The bugs also come off easier after using it. FWIW

I used RAINEX worked for me, kept the bugs in the easy off mode. Did check to see if it would cloud the shield first tho. helped in the rain too.

Rain-X clearly states not to use on plastic (edited and corrected, thanks to Bone Crusher). Windex & Pledge also contains ingredients, including alcohol and/or ammonia, harmful to plastics. Both of these products will eventually harm your windshield.

Take a look at this website for detailed instructions on proper windshield cleaning. I have had one of their windshields on my Goldwing for about 9 years and use this method. My windshield looks amazingly new.

I prefer water, when possible. Start with a wet towel to soften the bugs, then use lots of water (or water with a little carwash soap) and a microfiber towel. For less severe infestations, I dust with a California Car Duster then I use Windex Multi-Purpose with Vinegar to clean. Use of regular Windex with ammonia, or Rain-X will cloud or craze the windshield in time...but it usually takes several years. Another alternative is any of the non-abrasive plastic polishes, like Plexus, Cee Baileys, or the ones made for use on plastic aircraft windshields.

Rain-X NOT on glass? Are you sure about that? It's made for car windshields...and those are glass!

My bad... Should have said it is not to be used on plastic. Good catch! I will edit and correct the error.

No biggie...I really like Rain-X...Scotty advised against its use on plastics too...

The product I mentioned in my post is really, really good...

I have been using Dawn for months on the windshield and whole Spyder, than I dry it with the leaf blower. I do the same with the truck and the boat gets the same except that air dries. If you try Dawn? Make sure its not the kind with bleach in it. Bleach and the sun will rot the stitching in your seat.

Actually, I really like Rain-X, too. I use it on my BMW windshield, as apparently did the CHP before me. The problem is that it eventually clouds and crazes the plastic. For a thick windshield, like my BMW, that poses little problem. Every few years I remove the windshield and buff it out using a slow motor, string buff, and plastic polishing compound (plus a little careful technique). Of course most owners are not equipped to professionally polish plastics.

I avoid the use of Rain-X on the Spyder windshields. They are thinner and some have more complicated curves, making machine polishing difficult, especially repeatedly. The Spyder windshields are more upright, and don't shed rain as readily anyway. I don't see any problem with people using Rain-X if they are aware of the drawbacks, and are ready to face the possible consequences. It is strictly a personal choice, driven by a person's needs, circumstances, skills, and equipment...and maybe the depth of his/her wallet. :)

I've used Rain X on my truck windshield, But after a while it left a wax build up ,
And then the wipers would skip and leave vertical lines on the windshield.

I use Plexus on the windshield and it works very well. A 13oz can will usually last a riding season for me. I use Honda spray cleaner and polish on the rest of the bike.
