• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I saw thread that mentioned putting a cigarette lighter in one of the holes for the removed dash gauges.

I know most people would use that for a usb charging plug but, could it be used for an actual lighter or would the area get too hot and melt the plastic.

I know I it's bad for my health but I am 51 and am not stopping any time soon lol. I just hate pulling over on a long ride just to avoid the wind.

I have only seen them with a usb plug or something in them, never seen an actual lighter in it.

I might give it a try unless someone has tried and failed lol.

We have the same affliction :gaah::banghead: .... I have a 14 RT basic and added Two cig plugs to my dash .... I had no gauges there just blank covers ..... Caution not All 12v receptacles are able to handle the heat .... only ones that are designed for a lighter device .... mine are all metal and have worked fine .... no heat issues .... I discovered that with the cig plug in it, you had to very careful about water ..... so I used wine corks to keep the water out.... and put in a lighter when I was riding in dry conditions ...... If you have the gauges still, you will find BRP isn't generous with the length of wire they provide for the gauges .... When I painted Dee's dash surround I had to remove Hers .... Use a pair of needle nose pliers, the kind with the bent tip work best, but the reg. are OK ..... good luck >>>>>Mike

BK911 is right on. I did the gage-ectomy this winter. Installed a digital volt meter combined with two USB ports on one side and a cigarette lighter socket on the other. Don't try running anything like heated gloves or jacket off those receptacle. The OEM wireng won't take the amps and you'll end up with big problems. Low amp items like cell phones head phones and the like are ok. Run your heavy amp load items directly off the battery with a fused line.

:agree: ..... but I'm getting old and forget things ..... I ran both of mine with 16ga. stranded and a 15 amp fuse ....... Mike

Maybe I SHOULD put up pics of my Triple By-Pass Surgery for you guys that are still smoking cigarrettes (hell, I can't even spell it) and all the pills I have to take EVERY FRIGGIN DAY. :yikes:

I'm going to add one on my "19 RT, just haven't gotten around to it yet. What I have is a "Marine" cig lighter, it has a cone shaped water resistant cover beneath the grip that keeps rain out of the heater and socket assemblies. Don't ask where I got it, I've had it for YEARS and just moved it from bike to bike.
Only thing I would suggest is to use 14AWG wire from the battery and a 30A fuse which is turned on by a relay that has the coil activated by the "Accessory" lead in the Frunk so it is only live when the key is on.
