Chicago cancelled for me

Tom,

OY! WTF indeed. You need a Loner Spyder and take it to Chicago.

It wouldn't be the same as I wouldn't have the Madstadt windshield, the comfort seat, or the R-35 hard bags I bought.
...and all those purchases were for taking a long trip...:gaah:

Thanks Tom,
Actually this work was done at ANOTHER dealership- Velocity Powersports in Summerville SC, which is 20 miles further than the dealership in Savannah (which, from the info I have was told by BRP that they had to give up selling and doing warranty work on Spyders or they would lose ALL BRP products- THAT's the dealership I have a service contract with:thumbup:)*
* thumbs up guy in this instance denotes heavy sarcasm....
They came and got the spyder today. see my next message...

Of course, this is not the post I wanted to read. :gaah:

It does look like they are trying hard though, after all how many dealers would tow a truck that is already towing a Spyder. However, it also makes me question the safety aspect of towing like that. :dontknow:

I am truly sorry you are having more troubles with your Spyder. I was hoping that Velocity would be the ticket, and everything would be sorted out for your trip to Chicago. Heck, I was even considering sending you a PM about possibly meeting you there soon. :yikes:

Hang in there the best you possibly can, and keep us posted on the progress.

"Oh I used to be disgusted
And now I try to be amused....."

:agree:

After all you have been through with your Spyder this year, that is very understandable. Hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel you currently seem to be travelling down. Perhaps you need to push Velocity to put a new battery in your Spyder while they are trying to troubleshoot it. It appears to have worked for Eraser according to his post above.

Reminds me of some other safe practices I've seen.

I was with them when they first picked up the truck and realized that he wasn't going to make 2 trips, he was getting the spyder too, I thought about safety for about a half a second and then thought (remember I had been baking in the SC heat since 2pm and it was now 5pm) well maybe he'll wreck it and I can get a new one!

Actually it looked safer than the pic indicated and I hope they all got back safely in one piece - My :spyder: included.
I know a great :spyder:is hiding there....it just needs some good techs to figure it out, imho:doorag:

With the weather we have had lately, I probably would not have even considered the safety aspect at that point and told them to just hurry up and get it to the shop. Hopefully it will not be held hostage for too long.

With similar situations I have experienced, I just tell myself - "It is one day closer to resolution."

Of course, the "days" and the "resolution" are still mysteries, but so is Life. As Winston Churchill said, "When you find yourself going through Hell, just keep going."

It is also much easier to be philosophic about it when it is not me standing around with my Spyder in the heat, waiting for a tow.

Tom

At least you got a great story and pic outta the deal..:2thumbs:

Keep us posted---- good luck--- sorry we'll miss you in Chicago!

UPDATE Monday 6.21

Last tuesday I attempted to ryde my spyder home from the repair shop. breaks down on way home. Wed. it gets trailered to dealer. So, I call the Service Center on Saturday, was told it hadn't been looked at and that they were going to call BRP on Monday for diagnosis/help of finding out why it won't start.

My question is why does a vehicle go to the back of the line for service if it wasn't fixed right in the first place:dontknow:

I would think it would be a priority to get it out of the shop asap since the customer drove 85 miles to pick it up and was stranded on the side of the road on the way home with the exact same problem it was brought in for.

I haven't called the service dept. today. Doesn't matter at this point- I'm not off until Thursday can't make the long trip before then anyway:sour:

That kind of policy always sets off an alarm in my head. I have seen time and time again where that just encourages the workers to push something out the door without fully testing it and disconnects the previous event from the current one.

It is a true assembly line approach to issues that has no relationship to what most people define as a "good customer service experience".

The real bad news would be, all the other jobs in front of yours are situations just like yours - this is their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time through the shop to fix something that re-occurs to the customer on their way home. :yikes:

I hope not.

That makes no sense at all. They already knew it was coming back to them when they sent the truck and trailer to get it. They should have contacted BRP at that time to find out what to do next. I wonder if they are like the place in Columbia, where they only do in and out service calls like oil changes on Saturdays? Still, that doesn't explain what happened with the rest of the week.

I truly feel for you Tom, and am hoping you get the Spyder back in great shape very soon.

I was going to call Velocity about replacing my rear tire, but am definitely having second thoughts about that now.

Talked to the service department today. My Spyder is not fixed. No better than it was when they first picked it up the beginning of this month. They had me confused with my neighbor when I called. His spyder is apparently ready.

4 weeks and they can't get it to start or get out of gear.:gaah:

WTF??!!??

HEY BRP FIX MY SPYDER! YOU NO LONGER HAVE A PATIENT CUSTOMER.
I AM FED UP WITH EXCUSES.
I WANT MY MONEY BACK; I AM SICK AND TIRED OF SPENDING MY HARD EARNED MONEY FOR NOTHING.

Bought July 15 2009
broken or in shop from DEC.23 until APRIL 2
ran for APRIL AND MAY. BROKE/IN SHOP AGAIN SINCE JUNE 2

THE FACT THAT THERE IS NOT A COMPETENT SERVICE CENTER IN 2 STATES OR A 150 MILE RADIUS IS PATHETIC.

I was supposed to be leaving Chicago today from my trip top the owners event, yet here I am once again sitting on my :cus: venting to a website instead of enjoying ryding thru the countryside on the vehicle I spent good money for.

At this point I am wondering if they are even bothering to look at your Spyder. :dontknow:

Surely your problem cannot be that bad that it takes them a month to figure out how to get it out of gear and start it. You are supposed to be able to use a wrench to move it out of gear if you really need to, so what is the problem? I only know of the 2 dealerships in Columbia that are owned by the same person, and then the one in Statesboro, GA, that you haven't been to. Unfortunately, I have no idea if they would be able to do any better than Velocity or Savannah at this point either. If nothing else, it is at least time for a BRP tech to possibly fly in and take a personal look at your Spyder.

Best of luck with getting some kind of resolution to these issues that you can be happy with.

I can relate...ALL TOO WELL ... I lost my mother to cancer May 7th and held her service on May 11th...after we gathered for an extended family dinner... I rode my blind Uncle (his first time on any kind of motorcycle) my other Uncle , 4 Aunts (all over 60 yrs old)and several cousins , neices and nephews ! Everyone loving my :spyder2: !!!

I started it up to leave and WHAM ... running on 1 cylinder and "check engine " scrolling !!! I took it to my local dealer that week and told them what my :spyder2: was doing and told them about what i read here on SpyderLovers about several others with the same issues ... I mentioned to them that i was going to Chicago in late June to the :spyder2: gathering.. I havn't had my Ryde in 6 WEEKS :gaah: , I've missed the Chicago trip and I still have no clue when I will get it back ... this is " STRIKE 2 " for BRP ... it was last summers excitement of it catching on " FIRE " !!! that was " STRIKE 1 " I'm hopeing there won't be a " STRIKE 3 "

A BUMMER

at least you can set your sights om SPYDERFEST 2 next spring at CUBA MO, COWTOWN, there will be so many :spyder2: going there. someone will stop and help you out, if you do breakdown.:spyder::clap:

It's in the shop more than at your house. At this point I'd tell the dealer to keep the :cus: thing and I'd call my atty to figure out a way to get your money back.
Very sorry you missed your trip - I know I'd be upset about that.

I like the Spyder as a machine but I really don't like the way BRP and some dealers handle issues. I'm so thankful for my dealer but I do not like BRP's treatment of it's customers - nobody answering phones, nobody getting back to people, back ordered parts. And it's the same story, regardless of the issue w/ the Spyder - last thing I'd wanna do is call that customer service line and leave a message.
