Checking Tire pressure- How often ?

I was checking my tire pressure every day until I got tired of doing it. I don't check my car tires every day or every week, so why should I have to check these more often ? Aren't they similar to car tires and car rims . They don't seem to lose air. How often do you check your tire pressure.

On a new to me vehicle I check tires once a week, more often if indicated, for about 6-8 weeks. The same happens with new tires. I want to know the seal on the rim and fill valve is good. After that I check once a month unless otherwise indicated.

They hold PSI pretty well. If outside temps are much different from last ride, I'll check & adjust. Otherwise, maybe once a month. I'm fixing that annoyance at upcoming tire change by installing internal TPMS.

Every time I fire up my spyder and constantly while I'm riding my spyder. My FOBOs tell me the PSI of each tire and my rear shock airbag. The FOBOs constantly monitor my tires' PSI and will alert me of a small change, or a large instantaneous change of tire PSI.

I check between oil changes, or before a long run!! Most of the time I only have to add air is because I don't have a good air gauge, filler set up yet! For the most part the pressures do not change enough to mess with it!! The rims and tires are tight. Ride more worry less!! There are so many things that make your pressures to change, so if you always check first thing in the morning at around the same temp, you will find that the tires don't need as much attention as some people think!

I want to thank everyone for their help. If I could bring the Spyder into the house for checking air, that would be fine. However, there aren't any door wide enough to get it into the house. LOL

All you need is a pressure gauge and a air pump at the gas station!:2thumbs:

IMHO and experience most " tire pressure " issues are usually the Gauge .... at very low pressures " accuracy " is problematic ... If you were RACING your Spyder it would be important .... if not - don't worry about it .... worry less - ride more .... Mike

I check it every time I get on the bike, but I dont have to do anything special. For about 50 bucks you can buy one of the aftermarket TPMS units that has sensor valve caps same as the FOBO and a small receiver that can sit on the dash. I've had this particular unit now for over 2 years and it is great. Accuracy is very good. Uses a little solar panel, but is also rechargeable via a USB and lasts for a couple of months. Sensor batteries last about a year and you can buy replacement button cells in quantity off Amazon for a couple of bucks as well. This unit is made for a car, but I just disable one of the sensors which gives you a spare if you need it (and I did).

It begs the question(s) - what brand and where did you buy it?

I recently purchased a Ryobi battery operated air pump for $30, 18V battery not included, best $30 I have spent in recent years. I used that on anything with a Schader valve and Presta valve too.

Tire Air Pressure

I like to check my tire air pressures weekly and if there are no air leaks, I recommend going monthly.

I always made a walk around check and the tires are first on my list.

TMPS are a plus but it also has a cost.

My money budget manager, has not approved them. Somehow I am always over budget. ........:thumbup:

I always check the tires after the bike has sat for a while. And definitely after a big temperature change. :thumbup: Tom :spyder:
