• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Check transmission

Mine was different than the others I read. Theirs was forward shifting and mine was down shifting. But I did react in time to get a code. It is P0826. Shift up/down switch detection problem. Is this a problem that can be corrected by me or does it have to go to the shop? And how bad is it?
For those that don't know what I be talking about mine happens when I try to manually downshift. The engine sign comes up and it reads check transmission. Also the paddle does not work well, will not shift up or down. But if I keep playing with it it will go into gear and sign will go off. With mine its mostly down shifting with paddle and slowing down. Hope this helps anyone that this happens to.
So is there anything I can do myself to correct it??? Thanks for any help!

I had similar issue. Shifting both up and down, shifting down would lurch forward and shifting up it would stall. I didn't get any codes or check messages though. The problem was low oil, although it read just slightly low. Hope this helps, if it's the same, it's an easy fix!

You don't say what model or year,but I had trouble with my '11RS. it started not shifting and I discovered if i "Blipped" the trottle when i shifted it worked. I know it has a blipper valve,but did not work,it didm not shift when i pushed the + paddle and gave me a check eng. and scroled transmission error.dealer said it was fine, so fixed by trading to a '15RT,they fine;y fixed it and sold it.

Believe the code

In this case believe the code. You need a new paddle shifter switch. If you don't have the skills yourself see your dealer.

Thanks guys. Billy I believe your right. Have no idea where the switch is. Just don't really trust my dealer. Rock and hard place?

I'm starting to see this same error code on my 2012 RS SE5 now... after over 17,500 trouble free miles. :banghead:

Read all postings on this P0826 code posted on SpyderLovers, looked at a post with pics of a paddle shifter disassembled down to the switches inside (which appear to be sealed switches), and just have to wonder out-loud... has anyone experiencing this error code ever tried simply unplugging the switch harness connector spraying it with electrical cleaner then plugging and unplugging it 3 or 4 times in a row to "clean" the contacts?

The little switches inside the shifter itself appear to be completely sealed (so they may mechanically wear but should never oxidize IMHO), but the plug-in harness connector at the other end of the shifter leads isn't sealed and is exposed to moisture humidity and heat under the body panels... it would seem likely that it's contacts would oxidize a little over time and start causing problems. I live near Houston TX and we have sauna like summers here!

Anyways, I'm going to give that a shot before replacing this ~$150 switch assembly. My BEST warranty expires this month (may be good for another day or two next week), but I would still have to pay the $50 deductible if I take it over to a dealership and jump thru all their hoops... not sure it'd be worth $100 savings really given all the hassle that would be required to leave it with a dealer and I have no doubt I can change out the bloody switch assembly myself.

(ps. Yes I just changed my oil and both filters last week after the Check Transmission light 1st kicked on for a few seconds as it was 300 miles over on the change interval by then.... 4.25 quarts of BRP Rotax oil and new filters went in, but getting Check Transmission light more frequently now not less and happens just shifting out of Neutral into R or 1st before Spyder has moved so much as an inch ergo this is electrical in my case and P0826 is the code I pulled from it last time I rode). :gaah:

Still under Best warranty take it to your dealer and get a new shifter paddle switch put on. The dealer should not have problem with that. That is the fix for that code. If they won't call BRP.

@billybovine,

Thank you Captain Obvious! After spending several hours reading thru every single post on this subject you'd think I would have already known that much!
