• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

engine light question
Good Morning, i installed a juice box, while playing with the adjustments i set a code for lean exhaust, ( now set on #3 ) last saturday 3-9-13 i was going to the dealer ( about 60 miles away ) to have my check engine light turned off. after filling my tank with fuel, i started the spyder, and the check engine light went off and stayed off, my question is, if the computer see's so many good starts will it shut the light off, by itself. it has been started several times, and rode over a hundred,s of miles since the light had come on. the juice box was bought and install back in january. Thanks for any help

If the light isn't on, there's probably nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, you can't tell by the light itself what the problem is, it could be from anything. You have only two options: pull the code yourself when the light is on, or after the light goes off, have your dealer pull the code.

Mixture..!!

:agree: seems that at the initial installation of the juice box the mixture was off. If started and then adjusted you may have started to lean. Would watch but think you may have reached a point acceptable to the computer...imo

Code reader?

I can't say that I have a lot of knowledge of the working's of the Spyder ( picking up my first RT this Wednesday ) but having been a mechanic for to many years, auto diag. connectors and a code reader were compatible, with some exceptions, like Mercedes, and such.
So my question would be does anyone make a code reader that will pull the code and give you a definition, like the auto code readers?

It is built in.

BUDS is proprietary, and the Spyder connector and protocol are also proprietary and incompatible with OBD-II. There is nothing on the market at this time. Sorry!

:agree: You can only see the active codes (Stuff that's occurring right now), when you pull them up on the screen.
So pull them when you see them!
The stuff that has already happened is stored within the bowels of the computer; accessible only by BUDS...

thanks

Thanks i guess i ride to the dealers this weekend and have them check it out. thanks again for all the great advise.

Seem to be alot of problems with Check Engine and Spyders..

I just purchased my 2012 RT in October. My boyfriend rode it home (about 3 hour drive in 30 degree windy day) and then we had about a week or two to play before the snow hit. On a nice, warm day in December (50 degrees) I took the Spyder out and the check engine light came on at 55 mph...then went off. I might have shed a tear or two.

Searched the internet and found Lamonsters video on how to check for codes and mine was P1171.

Took it to dealer (almost 3 hours away) on a rented trailer - and found that they have to order a new Fuel Injector. Keep in mind I have a whopping 341 miles on the thing and really haven't even had an opportunity to ride it. Now I get to rent the trailer next week (hopefully) to drive another 3 hours one way to pick it up.

There seems to be alot of problems with check engine lights - enough where people are asking about error codes. I'm trying not to be grumpy and negative, but will my Spyder be in the shop and trailered more than it will be on the road? I realize its my own fault for living so far away from a dealer (we only have two in SD)...but I spent alot of money to RIDE something nice.

What are the chances that I will have more problems after the new fuel injector is installed? I love my Spyder -- just want to be able to feel COMFORTABLE that it won't die on the highway and I'm at the mercy of whomever decides to stop. Please tell me these are isolated incidences just magnified because the ones posting are the ones that are having the problems...I bought new to hopefully eliminate this.

You'll be fine, and so will your Spyder. In all the reading I have done here and all the posts I've seen posted, your injector problem is a first for me. Here's what I recommend. Spend as much time here reading researching and asking questions as time allows. If a term does not makes sense to you ask. Loads of people will respond and from those responses you will get a real, and understanable education on all things Spyder. IF, you really want to understand and appreciate what a GREAT machine the spyder is....get as involved here as you possibly can.

Welcome aboard.

I had a TB Juice Box on a 2010 RT and was plagued with codes that would come and go including this same code. Even working with BRP and a dealer tech we were never able to fully get rid of them and since the bike performed great otherwise we just rode it and put up with the codes until we traded it on a 2012. I understand that now BRP will decline some warranty service if the bike has a Juice Box installed.... not surprised after my exerience.
