• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

"Check DPS"

Trypod

New member
My first mechanical spyder problem. :( Wednesday afternoon was turning off the road into my neighborhood and felt something like a "bump" then immediately had to muscle the steering. Had just downshifted from 4th to 3rd for the turn and was doing about 30+or - . I looked at the cluster and saw the engine light on and "CHECK DPS" scrolling across the display. Never did go into LIMP HOME MODE, but by that time i was easing through the neighborhood anyway at about 15-20. Pulled in the garage, checked both fuses, checked for fluid leaks, not the problem. Called ins for my tow to shop then realized it was after 6pm and shop closed gates at 6:30....oops, sorry will call back in the am. Trypod delivered to shop, checked out and the steering pump came up bad on the laptop, :( , will now wait for BRP to send replacement, please hurry BRP!!!!!!!! I suppose i was getting spoiled and had to have a reality check, have had no probs whatsoever that some of ya'll art discussing, just my "catch up" i guess. I know there are going to be issues with first year production so i'm not ill about my current misfortune, but i am having some minor :spyder: withdrawal pains, and i'm wandering about the yard and my garage aimlessly. :dontknow: I have been able to catch up on the last few days postings here though, but now that i'm caught up, have nothing else to do......so, i'll be heading out to wander about aimlessly again. Ya'll ryde safe!!!! :spyder: :joke:

Sometimes, when I can't go out, I just sit.

Good grief. This is going to be a LOOONG summer! September seems so far away till I get my SE5. I would LOVE the chance to just "sit" on the Spyder, if nothing else. It's like playing make-believe when we were kids! ;D

:spyder: Update. Well, another weekend w/o the Trypod. :( Got the call from service mgr and a new power steering box had to be ordered, expecting a week for delivery. If the time estimate wroks out, then at least i'll be able to ride to Starke bikefest next weekend. Will be my first time there on anything but the HD but the trip to Leesburg went well so not expecting any different in Starke. Plus hometown boys made good the Van Zandts will be doing shows there as well as Blackfoot. Know what could possibly be worse than waiting on intial :spyder: delivery? Having it and not having it at the same time!!! Hoping BRP delivers on time and the shop gets me back on the road before next weekend. By the way, you do not want to have to BUY one of those steering boxes, $1200+applicable labor. And i got questioned on why i added the BEST to the 2 year warranty!!! Correct me if i'm wrong, but in my math, i come up with $895 for a 5 year warranty being a lot less than ONE steering box. :doorag: Until next report, ryde safe. And all you luckies in Valcourt, have fun!!!! :joke: :spyder:

Update!!!! Remember what it was like getting the "first call"?? Well, it's almost exciting to get the call to come pick up your :spyder: from the shop after a month long wait. ;D Will be picking up first thing in the am, probably won't make it home till sometime in the pm. ;D The new DPS pump had to be "synced", the cd was sent from BRP, have been told all is good now, so i'm stoked to be ryding again. :hot: :spyder:

Thanks ya'll. I'm working on my :doorag: , >:( and :edit: looks for when i pick her up, but know you all that on the inside i'll be :2excited: :hot: :hot: :hot: :hot: :hot:  and of course the great big ;D all the way home.

Picked up my :spyder: from the shop this am. :hot: :hot: :hot: It took me 2 1/2 hrs to cover the 19 miles between the dealer an my house. Well, i did come home by way of St. Augustine, Green Cove Springs, Middleburg....i live on the west side of Jacksonville. ;D What follows is what had to be done to :spyder: : 1. the diagnostics to indeed find out the power steering unit was bad :( 2. Ordering the unit from BRP and the week wait for it to arrive. 3. Replacing the unit, encoder magnet and output seal. 4. Many phone calls and emails between the service manager and BRP to get the steering unit computer updates and synchronizing software. 5. Testing after repairs. Now time for me to eat a bit of crow :redfaced: . There are a couple of things i did wrong, 1. listened to anyone that answered the phone rather than speaking to the service manager or writer first hand, 2. jumped to conclusions before finding out the facts (in my defense, i mean, my baby was broke and i wanted to ryde asap). After talking at length with my salesman, the service manager, parts guys, and a couple of cusomters....i found out that my :spyder: just happened to get there at a bad time as there was some inner turmoil going on, overscheduling and general disorganization. I suppose i should have realized this from the general disarray i saw last month when i first had my girl delivered to the shop. This am when i got there i saw a very different picture, the place was clean, organized and the techs were busy working in thier bays with what appeared to be smiles on thier faces. Big difference. The service manager (Matt) told me he now did all the scheduling and they have a new shop manager/service writer who seems to really "have his stuff in one sock". All in all, i believe i have had my confidence restored in the service department. I just felt it neccessary to digress since i am sometimes quick to find fault, so i should also recognize when things are working the way they should be. Fair is fair. Happy :spyder: 'in folks, i can be jovial again now!!! :joke:

You think $1200 for a steering box is bad, check out $2200 for a set of shocks.

Are you serious? $2,200 for the shocks the Spyder uses??!!!

I mean; I know, the Can-Am Spyder is sort of priced like a Ferrari for a motorcycle; but, if these replacements pieces are as expensive as I am being led to believe -ouch! :-[

Only if you put the stock shocks on. You can put air shocks, including the onboard compressor, for about half of that.

Are you sure about the price of the stock shocks? I think the 2k+ shocks are an upgrade set of Penske's from Ken at Evoluzion. I'd pay that in a heartbeat to Ken before I'd ever give BRP 2 grand for a set of stock shocks.

My question is; how soon would you need to replace the stock shocks? 8) I would think they would last a long time!
