chassis ground

today i installed a Battery tender pigtail on my 2011 rts, what i found is disturbing!!! the nut and bolt that holds the ground to the frame was a jury rig at best. there is a threaded boss on the frame but the thread size accommodates a bolt larger than the holes in the ground lugs, so they used a nut and bolt a couple of sizes smaller, a spacer, and placed it through the frame. so when i finally got the bolt out the nut fell out to never never land. the proper way to attach the ground would be to put the proper lugs on the ground straps and the right size bolt. i have seen other posts from riders that said they could not tighten the ground.:hun::lecturef_smilie: may be this is not from the factory, but the size of the ground lugs would say it was.

All the Spyders are built this way. You should never use the negative jumper terminal connection to attach a ground wire...and you should never loosen it! It would be good if BRP put a warning tag there. You are not the first to discover this.

I suppose a warning tag might read something like "Warning this cheap and almost inaccessible nut should not be loosened or even checked for tightness."

I also found never never land in my spyder, or at least my favorite #30 torx bit did.

I had the same problem but finally got the nut & bolt tightened back up. I found it easier to drill a small hole in the main frame and attach the pigtail ground there, than to try to get at the battery ground.
