CHASING LAMONT !!

When Lamont called Friday about meeting up for a ride Saturday I jumped at the opportunity. He suggested Maggie Valley at the Wheels Of Time Motorcycle Museum. I’ve never been there and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. We set a time and I hung up the phone. Saturday morning it was raining bullfrogs so I called Lamont fully expecting him to answer the phone. No answer. I called his cell phone – no answer. Could he possibly be on the way to the Museum? No way .. we were having a hundred-year storm, so I left a message for him to call me. When he called, he was at the museum!! I felt like a wimp! :sour: I really didn’t expect him to leave the house as hard as it was raining but, …. I guess I learned something about, Lamont. If he tells you he’s going to be somewhere, he will be there rain or shine!! Rain suit on, I left the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge for Maggie Valley. It was an uneventful ride until I came to Cherokee, NC. I was hitting about 45mph when all of a sudden I lost control for a brief moment.:yikes: The Spyder had hydroplaned on a large puddle of water in the road from the rains!! Someone had posted about this happening on one of the forums. Up until this harrowing experience, I had not had any indication of the Spyder having this problem in the rain!!

The Museum was awesome. Due to local politics, the owner of the Museum got tired of fighting the attitude of the local political leaders and is leaving town with his forty-year collection of the most impressive motorcycle memorabilia that I’ve ever seen and is moving it all to Arizona next year. Lamont knows the owner well so we had the opportunity to visit the garage area where the motorcycles are refurbished, repaired and in some cases, actually assembled from various parts bins!! This is an area that very few visitors are able to see. For everyone that will be making the Gatlinburg Spyder Riders event in September, it is a must that we visit the Museum. By the time Lamont and I toured the Museum, the sun had broken through and it was a beautiful day. After answering some of the typical questions of some folks that had gathered around our Spyders outside, we took off for Deals Gap.

The ride was great and by the time we arrived at the Gap, the place was a madhouse of activity!! Due to the crowded conditions and the fact that the Gap was covered with leos, we decided to not ride the Dragon. They serve good food at the store so we had a late lunch and once again after fielding a hundred questions about the Spyders, we headed out.

We decided to back track the way we came in. I connected the new POV1 camera I had just purchased so I could get some video of Lamont. The link is below. Unfortunately since I didn’t have the settings correct, the video is not as good as it could have been. Also, it has a wide angle lens so although the scene is wider than normal, the size isn’t optimum for videoing a motorcycle!! The video is 8-1/2 minutes long. I edited out some of the footage when we got stuck behind some slow moving cages and ... some even slower moving Harley's!!:dontknow: This section of Hwy 28 from the Gap hwy 74 which runs through Fontana Village, NC is one of the best section of roads in the area. It runs for several miles along a pristine lake with mountains in the background. A great place to ride – especially when you are on a Spyder!!!

Lamont can definitely ride the Spyder. The trailer is amazing. It seemed to track better than the Spyder around the curves. If anything, it actually looks like the trailer may even improve the handling. I never saw it break loose one time and believe me, we were getting about all you could get in the twisties.

We stopped by the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah, NC. I wanted to show Lamont the lodge. He was impressed. Actually, we are talking about getting some of us together a weekend in August for an informal get together. The date is tentatively set for Aug 15-17. Let us know what you think about this. We would not want to interfere with the Gatlinburg event. Also, to do so we would have to cancel the Mt Airy event? I have reserved ten cabins and I must confirm these reservations by July 15th so we need to move fast if we do this thing. Take a look at the Iron Horse web site …. www.ironhorsenc.com It is the best motorcycle only resort I’ve ever seen. More about this later.

It was great meeting and riding with the Lamonster. We had a good time and really put the Spyders through their paces.

Here's some pictures of our visit to the Wheels of Time museum. Lamont is beside the small trike. You and I see an antique children's tricycle .... Lamont sees a prototype of the next Spyder - especially the fenders!! ;)

I'm standing beside the very large motorcycle .... finally, a bike that will fit me!!:2thumbs:

Hevnbound, cool write up about riding with Lamonster. Somehow I imagine
riding with Lamonster would actually be chasing Lamonster. Nice pictures
and sound like it was fun.:2thumbs:

Great time Bro.:2thumbs:

Looks like I was still a little wet from the rain. :opps::shocked:

Or you really enjoyed the ride! roflmao

BTW I have been planning a trip to GA or TN for the middle of August anyway. Count me in as tentative probably with one or two extra.
