Charging the RTS through 12 volt outlet

Someone mentioned using the 12 volt outlet to charge the RTS. Does anyone have a brand name recommendation for this. Battery tender does not make a 12 v attachment. I am looking for something I can leave attached to the RTS for several months over the winter to trickle charge.

They do make the "cigarette lighter adapter plug". (Their words...) I E-bayed mine because the shippping charges that Deltran hits you with are a bit too high...

Ditto on what Bob said. I went over to Daytona and bought both the Batter Tender Plus and the cigarette type adapter that fits into the outlet in the "runk".

I just took a standard Battery Tender end with the ring terminals (I have lots of them!), cut the rings off and attached a cigarette lighter plug I got from Radio Shack. Easy as pie and works like a champ.

Sure it does the battery tender I bought has 12volt battery connectors and AC outlet and a pigtail to hook it up to your battery :-))

On my spyder, the cigarette lighter does not work when the key is off. There is a delay of 15 seconds on after the key is shut off. Did I hook the cigarette outlet to the wrong fuse block?

On my :spyder2:, my cigarette lighter outlet does not work after the key is shut off. Question. Did I hook the cigarette outlet to the wrong fuse in the fuse block?:dontknow:

Only the RT 12V outlet is hot all the time. The RS accessory outlet is normally wired to be switched.

So could somebody hook that plug up differently so that it's hot all of the time?
Yes, it can be done easily, but requires trunk removal. There is a second accessory harness and connector tied in the center of the Spyder. That one works off the "Unswitched Accessory" fuse in the RS fusebox. Disconnect the existing harness and tie it out of the way (normally to the left suspension bracket) and attach the other connector. Then move the 3 amp fuse to the "Unswitched Accessory" slot of the fusebox, and you are in business. On Nancy's RS, I just added switched and unswitched Powerlet outlets in the dash. Very easy to charge from there...but it requires a different adapter. The beauty of the RT is that you don't need to mess with any of this...just buy an adapter and charge your little heart out. It's all hooked up and ready to go.

Sears has a maintenance (float) charger for around $20. It's the DieHard 71219. I just picked up another one on sale for $17. It comes with a cigarette lighter plug.

I did that too with the Battery Tender Plus. The red light kept blinking indicating it wasn't charging. What did I do wrong? :(

Never mind. I found the problem. It's working now just fine.

I wasn't blessed with a surplus of parts and I wanted to keep the "regular" connectors available in case I needed to hook this up to something else here in the dungeon... (How much does one of those Radio Shack plugs cost anyway??)
