CHAD Windshield - Helmet Buffeting - HELP!

I think that bringing the top of the windshield toward the rider (raked back) can improve the wind protection for some riders in some circumstances by changing the airflow around the windshield.

One reason that I think that everyone can have a different experience with all these different windshields is that no two people are physically the same. Even two people at 5'8" tall can be different in so many ways (120 lbs vs. 220 lbs, short torso vs. long torso, narrow shoulders vs. wide shoulders, long arms vs. short arms, S helmet size vs. XXL helmet size, etc.) Being your entire body is still out in the wind, everything about a person's body can affect the way they sit on the Spyder and the way the airflow moves around them.

I raked it back last night. I'll see how it goes today.

I'm 5'10". I cannot find a position to eliminate head buffeting! Gives me a headache after a long ride. If I lean down it goes away.

Anyone else have this problem?

I looked at SAENG Micro Swirl but the reviews on this product are mostly unsatisfactory.

Can't find a Laminar Lip that looks like it might work on the CHAD.

I'm thinking about going back to the old reliable BRP Touring shield. I was hoping to find a shield that would give me some air while at the same time eliminate head buffeting!!

Any ideas?

P.S. Have already tried two F1's and they are not an option.

I'm 5' 11 or at least the last time I checked I was and I didn't have that problem and at the time I wore the same helmet. :dontknow:

I've since cut mine down because I needed more wind but I do have a full size for the winter.

Another very good point .. I'm 312 with a long torso which also might affect the wind flow.

So let's see .... As of now, I need to cut my seat down, get another helmet, loose 100 lbs, remove the risers and wear shoe lifts. I'll get right on it!! :roflblack:

It is a mystery how one thing works for some and the same thing doesn't work for others; windshields, helmets, gloves, .... etc., etc.!!

Thanks again for all of the great input.

Now that's funny:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.

Interesting. I am 5'10" and W has the CHAD on her :spyder:. I generally leave the CHAD set for her and just ryde. I do get air on my helmet, but even following pickups and box trucks, the air off the CHAD is pretty smooth.

I'm also 5' 10''

I'm waiting for some reviews on the BRP's windshield before I make my dicission. good luck,

Maybe lower your seat cusion somehow like others have done :dontknow:

I'm with you on that...maybe we should find an anti-aging cryotherapy center and wait it out until it arrives?

BRP windshield buffeting

I'm 5'10" and I have the 23 inch BRP touring wind shield. My SO is 5'7" and we both get buffeting from the 23 inch BRP. I installed it less than two weeks ago. For a $300 windshield this just doesn't cut it for people of our height and riding position. I understand BRP is coming out with a 25 inch but I can't see where another 2 inches is going to make that much of a difference. I do like their cut and style though. I just wish you could get one that is 30 inches tall.

Just today I ordered a F1 EVO III Regular in the 30" height. It has a molded in deflection lip at the top.

I'll be selling the 23 BRP in a few days.

That's because it's not only how the item works, but in what each person is looking for as to what they consider working for them.

I HAVE HAD THE CHAD WINDSHIELD THAT I PURCHASED LAST FALL FROM NMN I HAVE FOUND THAT THE RAKE OF THE SHIELD CAN BE VERY MINIMUL IN ORDER TO ELEMINATE BUFFETING AFTER SEVERAL SMALL ADJUSTMENTS I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUFFETING AT ALL. I HAVE A SHARK EVOLINE ABSLUTE HELMET AND IN ANY CONFIGURATION I GET NO BUFFETING AND RIDING SPYDER IS A DREAM

Let me ask you this - if you flip your shield on your helmet up does the buffeting go away?

I know I get more helmet noise with my full face helmet closed up as opposed to flipping the shield all the way up. Since I have the inside sun visor, I often ride with the outer shield all the way up.

Hate to say it, but maybe try a different helmet if the shield 'up' test seems to reduce buffeting.
I have a Shoei RF-1000 that was very quiet, but it was a full face helmet. Check out the Shark Evoline helmet if you have the right shaped head.
