Thanks Lamont for the modified CHAD idea. :bowdown: Here are my before and after pics of my new CHAD. First the ugly (IMHO) uncut toenail and second the Lamont inspired curve to the top. I'll post a link to more high res photos later tonight. I can also email anyone a PDF of my template if you send me you email address by PM. CHAD rocks!hyea:

I did it similar to in Lamonster's post. I taped up the CHAD with painters tape. Made a template and traced the cut line on both sides. Cut with a jig saw, then filed and sanded the edge smooth. Send me a PM w/ your email address and I'll send you a PDF of my template.

CHAD trim on corners

May be true, but the airflow feels like it is a good 12" right and left of my helmet even after the trim. I don't think the corners missing makes any difference at all

Spydr in KS - pls clarify what you mean by a good 12" right & left of your helmet? I assume this means you are getting more wind with the corners cut off? I want a diff shield that keeps most of the wind/buffeting off away from my helmet.

No, I don't think trimming the corners hurt the performance at all. I don't get any buffeting. I do get some wind depending how I have it adjusted. If you want no wind, set it high enough you'll be looking thru the CHAD, but you will get warm. I like to look just over it, feel some air, but no buffeting.hyea:

I see most of you have used a band saw. Any other possible methods of cutting the CHAD? I ask because I don't have a band saw but like the look of the trimmed CHAD.

Same here. I used a jig saw w/ a fine tooth metal cutting blade. Worked fine.

I would think band saw or jig saw to be the best ways. I originally tried my roto-zip and then dremel----- both did a horrible job.

Also be careful with any sanding you do - I scratched mine up a bit -----:gaah:


I figure the shield itself will get banged up and trashed within 1-2 years anyway. I wonder what they are charging for replacements?

I've used a bandsaw and a jigsaw. If you use a jigsaw make sure you tape up the bottom of the saw so it doesn't scratch the shield. Just go slow and take your time.
