CB Radio Issues

Just installed the BRP CB in my 2012 Can Am. Not a big CB user but wanted the intercom feature. Everything works great with the exception of the CB. Range is about 500 ft. I suspect it has something to do with the swr setting. I remember from the old days that we used to have to set the swr by changing the length of the antenna. Not real sure how this would be done on the BRP antenna.

I noticed that J&M sells a CB antenna kit for the Cam Am with "pre set swr". Has anyone used these and do the improve the situation any?

Transmission or reception range? If transmission, make sure the squelch setting of the receiving CB is properly set. If reception, make sure the squelch setting on the BRP CB is properly set.

If those are properly set, you'll want to check the SWR settings. The adjustment is performed with a meter and small incremental bits of the copper wire wrapped around the antenna. To make those changes, remove the plastics cap from the top end of the antenna. You may have to make a small slice in the plastic coating on the antenna to locate the end of the copper wire. This is the wire you trim by pulling it up and out. Do so only a small amount at a time, maybe 1/4-1/2" at a time. If you cut too much, there's no fix except to replace it. You cannot buy just the antenna, but have to buy the whole kit. Seems like it runs $179, so you don't want to go there. Make sure you calibrate the meter between each check.

My antenna got broken and I replaced it. The replacement was already set to the proper SWRs.

Also, the braided ground strap is critical. Hopefully you know that you know it was installed properly. Thread lock compound can interfere with the signal, so you don't want to use that on the antenna.

Can transmit but not receive

I have the BRP CB radio and can transmit but not receive. They added the CB when I bought the bike, any ideas as what should be checked first?
